Oh i have ordered from mint several times and they should look at my subscriptions to see but it really ticks me off when they say they dont know what picture i am looking at i know what i am looking at i have many eagles 3 complete proof sets and 3 complete mint state set and many graded coins i ordered 10 proofs in each of the last 2 years so they should be able to see something instead of saying i don't know what i am looking at pretty bad customer service if you ask me but for the sake of it i will think they are at the mercy of fulfillment
I was told by the mint that this order gets free Expedited shipping, so shipping is $4.95 and they wouldn't allow me to pay more for expedited... ? was this not the norm ?
please excuse my remarks as I am just venting this has been handled very poorly by the mint and to say that I don't know what i am looking at well that just takes it again sorry to all glad all that got there's and those that will i hope to be one of those soon thanks
Anything over $300 gets free expedited shipping. If you place the order online you can select expedited, but it's a waste. I guess if you talk to them on the phone, they try not to rip you off in person...lol
I got an email from MCM about getting on the pre-order list for a set of slabbed coins. You can choose a 69 or 70 set and PGCS or NGC. Some people must already be making arrangements to sell to them.
They were advertizing over on CU before the mayhem started. In the hours leading up to the sellout, I believe they were offering $400 and had a lot of takers (!) though how many of those get seller's remorse and welch on their deals is open to conjecture.
I am not sending my sets in for grading by PCGS or NGC, but I think it is crazy how you have to send them unopened from the mint to get their special labels. If the bullion, proof and uncirculated coins are interchangeable, why does it matter? Who cares if someone cherrypicks their best coins and submits them as one set? More power to the person for assembling the best possible set for his/her collection. Really stupid policy.
Ultimately the top price will be whatever these vendors sell them for. The eBay prices will be dampened by that. I've never known MCM to price gouge, but they do have to cover the costs of grading the coins plus make some profit.
Without a doubt. I'm just not sure how many sets they'll actually end up with. With Ebay auctions seemingly setting a baseline of $700 / set right now, how many of the people who agreed to sell theirs to MCM / Apmex / whoever for $400 - 425 per set will actually do so when they receive them from the Mint?
Sadly a lot of people collect the labels and will want their full set to have 25th Anniversary Set labels. Since those three coins are available separately, only by having sealed sets can the TPGs guarantee that they came from this set (not that it matters to anyone other than label collectors). Gotta hand it to the TPGs, they've managed to sell the absolutely meaningless First Strike / Early Release codswallop to a whole bunch of people. I wonder though...from the pics I've seen, the outer boxes are sealed with regular old packing tape and the inner boxes aren't sealed at all. We're not talking Monster Box levels of strapping here. You think the TPGs are really going to be minutely examining every cardboard box that comes to them in order to ensure that the tape hasn't been slit / removed / replaced?
APMEX has had a standing offer of $425 since before the sets went on sale. None of the offers are great but some of the companies might be willing to trade for something in inventory that is priced higher than what they are willing to lay out in cash. sturmgrenadier, the TPGs are not going to put 25th anniversary sets labels on coins that might not have come from such a set, something which which also disqualifies them for FS or ER labels as well. Just because there are those of us who think the labels have little or no meaning doesn't mean that there aren't people out there that desire the special labels and are willing to pay for them. If I decide to grade any of my coins, I will probably send them to PCGS for FS labeling simply because market history says that coins so labeled will bring top dollar when sold. What I think about the labels doesn't matter at that point, what matters is what people will pay. The TPGs will do at least a cursory examination to look for tampering and may reject anything that they think might have been manipulated. They have been doing this for a while and are probably pretty good at it. ANACS and IGC don't even offer special set labeling. ANACS says that they don't want the mint packaging at all and will only the two unique coins as special. Having five sets graded at ANACS will cost $380 plus the cost of shipping to them and IGC will charge $335.
Good point. I've always wondered why the US Mint doesn't get into the business of selling certified first strike coins (guarantee that the coins sold came from the first few hundred or so struck by a new die). they could make a ton and for a change, the first strike would have meaning since they really would be the sharpest, best cameo coins. as you pointed out, first strike/eaarly release as it stands now is a meaningless scam (the coins aren't any better than others).
don't think they could grade coins according to one i talked too they aren't shipping until Monday?????
i just got ngc official e-mail on set if box is tampered with only the 2 special coins will get er or fs label and by the way label is nice looking plus other restrictions of what they will and wont do
Collectors could put a stop to the nonsense by refusing to buy into it. Just because the TPG's don't have the integrity to stop using a fraudulent label, the collectors don't have to support it.
Most First Strike coins don't sell for more than $18 over the Non-FS coins. In most cases it's not a good investment.
I think the best comparison I can come up with is with baseball cards. The cards and their grades used to rule but in came signed cards, cards with uniform cloth and locks of hair. TPG's now have designer's signatures, bogus first strike, flag series, early release and yada yada yada hype. What's next?
