A check? Even if the check "clears" and is deposited in your account, it doesn't mean you actually have the money. You do know that the other party can issue a stop payment on the check or close the account or cut you a check without money in their account right? Then when the thing bounces, you're stuck with your thumb up your a$$
UPS does deliver on Friday, Veterans' Day, so if the mint ships overnight on Thursday, you'll get it Friday.
Bouncing a check is a crime. If the check bounces, you always have law enforcement and the courts to back you up.
And is that something you really want to rely on? If someone is desperate enough to scam on CL, you really think you'll get any money back from small claims? What if the check was stolen? What if they skipped out of state? What if the check itself is fake? You do know that fraudulent check scams are one of the more common types of scams along with scams like the "nigerian prince needs money through western union" right? Why not just transact in cash and not expose yourself to this risk?

Rickmp, I would agree with this. Too many ways for someone to defraud you with a check. It could be stolen, written on account with NSF, forged, stop payment issued after the fact, etc. All of these things would leave you with no money and no coins. You are technically correct this would be agianst the law, but as someone who has expereince trying to colelct on these things, you know many people who do this are both slippery and really do not care much about the law. I would know what questions to ask, and what to look for, regarding these issues, and I still would never be comfortable enough to accept a check from a stranger for coins. Too much risk. Just my opinion. Chris
