As I was checking prices of the sets on EBAY, I could not failed but to notice one... People are just CRAZY over this set!! Can not believe it!!! What would you say that the price for a set "graded" set by NGC at "70" be? Well, just for the satisfaction visit ebay's www page; http://www.ebay.com/itm/280764850520?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 A quien Dios se lo dio, que San Pedro se lo bendiga!!!
I can't believe anyone would even go for this yet. the sets have yet to be delivered, let alone be graded, so how can this particular person state he has a set of 70's.
Just gets more and more ludicrous.. also, no canceled sales. Wonder what happens if he doesn't manage all ms/pr 70's then what...
The no shipping till mid-December should be a reason not to get involved in this one. The only reason I can think of is for this is the seller doesn't actually have the items. As well, the listing states your item will have different serial numbers indicating to me that these are borrowed pics. Just because his logo appears on the pics means nothing. This can be done on any borrowed or stolen pic.
Ok! What would a "real sensible" price? Maybe around $1,500? I will keep on visiting this page to see (interesting)the reaction of the buyers...
There are currently 450 auctions (at the moment) for these coins ranging from singles to full sets and sets of five. Amazing for a coin that hasn't even shipped yet. I think it settles it there were a huge number of flippers buying this coin. It remains to be seen if the prices hold as it seems as if they are selling to each other at the moment. You can view them here. http://tinyurl.com/3uc3hp5 I notice that a lot of them have no bids.
I have a question.....maybe a dumb one. I have never had a coin graded before and I'm seeing a lot of buzz about sealed vs unsealed boxes being sent in for grading. Is all this about getting a first strike label?.... or, I'm kind of getting the impression that people are hoping for 70 grades and they are some how connected to sealed boxes. Is this right? what does a sealed box have to do with the grade of a coin?
I can't help thinking there is something very fishey about this sale. The seller states that THE ORIGINAL US-MINT BOX AND COA WILL NOT BE INCLUDED !! What does this lead you to believe about the authentisity of it being a real US Mint set.
If you have to send them a sealed box (without looking at what you have) how would you know what your gonna get,and whats the chances of all five coins in each set being 70s
here's the killer... people often don't check feedback. Look at the 3 negs that this guy owns. All 3 are for pre-sold ATB sets that he cancelled and re-sold later to higher bidders
You don't know! And who knows what the chances are. There could be imperfections. They could be perfect but the grader you get is having a bad day and getting tired of looking at them! It's a huge risk that would cost hundreds to get 5 sets graded. But if you can get a set of 70s, it is assumed that you will be raking in thousands. It's nothing but a gamble. And the huge increases are unfounded IMO. I'm leaving it to the tv sellers to do the gambling. Leaving all my sets in the mint packaging. They all should be 69s minimum. I recognize the 70 grade myself, but it's so insignificant that I do not believe it should drive the value from $600 to $5000. Especially not on these. Something from 1824? Ok, I can understand price jumps for minute differences in grade. Not 2011 bullion that is all carefully handled and made with state of the art equipment, and never touched.
Good post. I still have a question though that hasn't been answered. What does a sealed box have to do with what coin a grades?....or is it that they want to insure that an entire set grades a 70 and hasn't been cherry picked from many to make up one?
That's pretty much it. It needs to be in a sealed box so the TPG knows the sets haven't been cherry picked and had the other 3 coins replaced with better quality, individual MS and PFs that had been previously purchased. Otherwise there would be no way to know. Now the S and the reverse proof are only available in these sets, so they could be sent in individually and would receive the 25th anniv. label. No way to differentiate the rest. They just want to keep it legit, which I can understand. Even though the other 3 coins from the set are probably coming out of the same piles as the individually available ones.
Thanks! So I gather the third parties will issue the sets in a single holder? I have to wonder about the mind set of collectors that feel that a set of coins trumps individual ones that all grade the same. I can kind of see it but at the same I can't see myself paying a premium for the subtle distinction. I guess whatever floats your boat.
no, they will issue individual holders (except NGC and they will use a multi-holder on request) for each of the coins, but they will all have 25th anniversary set labels if submitted in the sealed Mint packaging
They'll be slabbed in whatever the submitter specifies. For stuff like this, you can usually select to have them slabbed individually or all together in one big slab. The big slabs are good for display but can be so valuable, I don't know why anybody would want to leave one out. You can get other stuff put together in one big slab if you want too. Like a few Morgans can be slabbed together. The TPG services are not cheap unless you are a dealer with bulk submissions. Oh yeah, NGC is the only one with the big slabs for sets. I dont think PCGS does it.
