2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set

Being this a relatively limited edition I wonder if it might be worthwhile to grade the set?

I'd never slab modern bullion. They're practically perfect to begin with. Most will grade between '67-'69. Why go to all that expense? To capture the elusive '70? Better in OGP. A humble sods opinion......

 

Makes sense to me. I believe the set will be in a relatively small box compared to the 2009 UHR coin. My UHR is an early release but not graded for two reasons. The OGP is too large for my tastes.

 

Does take up a bit of room in the coin cabinet, 'eh?

 

Have 4 Sets, could get 2 of 4 graded. Sell 2 raw... undecided

 

I think that most purist collectors don't care a lot about 69 or 70 grades because those are really pretty common examples of a lot of coins nowadays. I think marketers look for these things to hype in order to create an artificial demand....then again perception is reality

 

It doesn't seem it to me either but so some is must as people spend their money on them.

I bet that the regular bullion coins that are graded 70 as part of this set still command a premium (although I don't know why anyone would pay it). I have decided not to have any of mine graded since it just isn't worth it. I also see the pre-sale prices have cooled significantly, down to about $600 per set. I don't see them going for less than $500 anytime soon though.

 

I agree that the regular bullion issues will certainly come with a nice premium to have that special label. In the end there could be 100K reverse proofs graded, but there will certainly never be anywhere near those numbers for the other bullion coins - people will open the boxes and look...losing the opportunity for later.

 

Just checked the Mint's site and my order is now marked as "in process".

 

Order # 38325xxx placed at 12:05, i would like my order would be in progress too. Maybe you got in before me.

 

Mine says In Process as well, order stamped 12:10 pm 38326xxx. I would not be surprised if it takes to Thanksgiving to get this.
