I was visiting some of my coins today and found a 2009 silver panda MS70 first strike. I looked it up on the pcgs site and found that it has a population of only 143. I am trying to determine a realistic value for it, but cannot find any recent sales for the first strike. This is my only panda. Any panda experts out there who might have any idea about the value? Thanks, TC
well I'm sure someone out there will pay extra for the 1st strike part of that label...but to me it's just extra wording...it might actually put me off on bidding for it cause there's always bidders for that type of stuff...is it a population of 143 because it's a 1st strike or is that 143 total MS70's?
The original mintage of this coin was 600,000 and sold for $27 in the USA. (probably far fewer were sold in the USA) It's a tricky question because most of these coins, IMO, did not end up in the USA. It's probably the reason for the low grading population. i.e. It's a bullion coin and not many grade silver bullion coins. If you are selling in the USA, I think the market is limited for Panda coins from a numismatic value. You might want to check with Modern Coin Mart.
You could get $250-$300 for graded MS70 1 oz. Silver Panda right now, as of Oct. 29, 2011. The first strike designation should bring you a little bit more. $50+ or more. Good luck!
Top Cat I am not an expert on Panda's & but do have the complete silver set. but do know there one of the lower minted .999 silver coins & have a few older rare date types. but this may help. :kewl: http://www.pandaamerica.com/silver_pandas.asp?sresult.asp?page=1&keyword=Panda Silver&sortby
Thanks for the input. The vast majority of my bullion is raw. This one does not seem to fit it. I purchased it in a slab to reduce risk of it being counterfeit. I have never sold a coin in my life so maybe a trade is in order. TC
