What is the 2011 25th Anniversary ASE set really worth?

Now that this set has been sold out, and the secondary market is ready to go nuts, I thought it would be interesting to speculate a bit on what the 25th Anniversary ASE set is really worth.

Here’s something to consider: possibly the best datapoint we have…the 2006 20th Anniversary Silver Eagle set...is selling in the range of $330 and $375 currently on eBay and through a couple of retailers. And, this 3 coin set is not nearly as rare as the 5 coin 2011 set. Here are the specifics:

    - 2006 W “Collector’s Uncirculated” - 466,573 minted
    -
    2006 W Proof - 1,092,477 minted
    -
    2006 P Reverse Proof - 248,875 minted

    - 2
011 Silver Bullion Coin (no mint mark) - 36,375,500 minted (latest figure)
    -
    2011 W Proof - 783,787 minted (latest figure)
    -
    2011 W “Collector’s Uncirculated” - 195,507 (latest figure)
    -
    2011 S Uncirculated - 100,000 minted
    -
    2011 P Reverse Proof - 100,000 minted

So, it’s pretty safe to assume that the 2011 set is worth substantially more than the 2006 set, in terms of silver content, number of coins contained in the set, and rarity. And don't forget that the 2006 set has been around for five years - meaning that any uncertified set you can buy on eBay may well be a cull or at least cherry-picked.

Based on these facts and mintage numbers, my guess for a true value on a uncertified/un-cherry-picked 2011 ASE set is...between $700 to $1,000. What do you think?

The only two coins in this set that potentially will have high numismatic value are the S Uncirculated and the Reverse Proof. Add those two together and that is what the set will be worth. The other 3 don't matter.

Well that makes sense but if people break up the sets to isolate those two coins won't a full set become rare too?

  5. Apmex is paying $425/set, so they will probably retail around $850. I only purchased for my collection, but if I was planning to flip I would do so very soon. Before too long these will be yesterday's news and people will be focused on the next big thing from the Mint, perhaps the UHR Palladium coin. TC

Are they actually making a UHR Palladium coin?

Im newer to coin collecting but from what I've seen I think the 2 big coins are worth about 200 each on average (based on the 2006 rev proof) and the other 3 about 50 each on average so would say when price settle set will be about $550 based on todays silver price but in short term(next 1 to 2 years) can see them shoot up to 800 or so. But that's just my guess.

It's just as easy to say that since the 2006 set has double the mintage, that it is overpriced, as opposed to the 2011 set being underpriced.

What does the 2008 Rev of 07 tell us?
Did they ever figure out how many of those there were?
What are they going for now?
Other than the 95 proof, that one should still be key.

These will probably be controlled by the silver price plus a collector premium like most collectible silver coins. I'm sure the silver price alone will make it worth much more than it is going for today, but we can only wait and see how the collector premium will stick around :)

I'm sure it will be quite well considering such low mintage on the 2 key coins

I was thinking in the 40k range as well, but couldn't remember.
Plus I haven't checked in a very long time, and didn't know if it changed because it was more or less a guesstimate.

I suppose the valus will be determined by the number that ended up in the hands of flippers. The more flippers the lower the value.

    $400-450 for the set:
    The three commons average $50.
Plus $100 for the S, and $175 for the reverse proof.

I might be wrong but that seems like a worst case scenario- the low end of a worst case scenario

I would not be at all surprised if this set gets above 1500 within two months. 3000 for a 70 set. Though these seem high, I believe it is reasonable due to the popularity and the limited mintage.

Since the two special ASEs are only gotten in this set, would it make sense to just pull them from all the sets and turn in only those for grading and screw the first strike designation? It would be much cheaper this way to get all 10 of the rarer coins graded.

25th anniversary description - worthless since all 100,000 is only offered in this set
First strike description - worthless since all 100,000 are first strike.

I mean, a 2011 PF70 reverse strike is what it is right? Would it really matter if the other common bullion in the set wasn't graded or this coin doesn't have the descriptions above?

There could be millions of people who haven't even found out about this set yet. I don't know how this set couldn't do very well. I honestly think $500 a set would be the low end going forward.

So you guys think that in the long haul would it be better to send a set in to get graded and probably come back with a split 69/70 set or leave them in the capsules/display case? Not looking to flip them or anything since i only opted for 1 set but since i only got 30 days to get the 25th Anniversary label, wondering if it's really worth the cash to grade them.

As I mentioned in another thread, the price is now at about $500 on ebay. After the hype is over, it will settle in about $350 about this time next year. I must say, I hope I'm wrong since I bought 5 sets and plan to keep all of them.
