I'm a novice bullion buyer/collector. I bought an unc 2010 Mt Hood 5 oz Silver Quarter from the mint. I also bought a Gettysburg 2011 5 oz Silver Quarter (off a roll) from banks55, an eBay seller. The MT Hood Quarter is frosty all over. The Gettysburg quarter is shiny all over. Why would two different unc bullion coins have a different finish? Thanksfor any information!
The shiny one is bullion. It has no mint mark. The frosted one is uncirculated, and carries the P mint mark. Both are struck my the US Mint, the bullion is sold only through Mint authorized dealers and the (collectable) uncirculated is sold by the Mint directly to collectors. Both, however, have become collectable.
