  3. I don't know if it's been said yet, but this is one ugly hunk of silver!

I was reminded the other day that several folks thought the Grizzly was ugly as sin in the early release pictures, though it's now grown on me quite a bit. The coin is quite a bit different in hand.

So...I'm hoping for a similar miracle here.

(Though I'm fairly sure there's not enough "better in hand" spray on the PLANET to pretty up this abomination)

it will be an ugly or nice looking as you expect it to be...the more you hate on it the more you will see it's flaws including one that weren't really there...basically the big nose argument...the more you see it as huge...the bigger it becomes...

  6. I liked the rendering of the Grizzly....the Cougar looks like trash right from the get go...:(

My Cougar arrived. I took pictures of all three and realized how beat up these coins are

Does anyone know why the Bear and Cougar have a "WW" and the wolf doesn't?

Is the "WW" a Canadian mint mark? What does is this abreviation for? Thanks

They're nice coins, no doubt. Good strikes, good surfaces, like always with maples.

But the design is..if anything...MORE cartoonishly freaky in hand than in pre-release photos. :(

Because the artwork on both was designed by William Woodruff....an artist I'm rapidly coming to dislike quite a bit.

I was actually thinking more like Willy Wonka, as the design is so juvenile. I wonder if this same guy has designed the remaining coins of the series and if so, if all of the animals are going to be growling. It's okay the first time, but it gets old quickly. It's amazing this series can go from the confident majesty of the timber wolf, set in the moonlight (notice it does not have to be growling to be outstanding) to the not great, but acceptable design of the grizzly bear to the laughable design of the cougar. It looks as though this guy is a product of the video game generation. The trend the series is taking does not seem to be a good 1, but we'll have to wait until next year to see for sure. I ordered a coin just to continue the set, but I would definitely have not if it was a stand-alone coin.

Pretty much this. All of it. Exactly.

If the CDN mint doesn't go back to another artist, they're going to wind up producing an undesirable, overpriced set of 6 coins with no more value than dinged up private mint rounds.

Got my cougars in hand and am happy with the purchase, more so to keep the set going than anything else. I don't love the design, but it's 99.99% pure which I do love no matter how you slice it. I also hope they get away from the fierceness and focus more on the naturistic aspect. The timberwolf was originally designed in 2006 for the 1/2 oz coins and will be hard to top. It is probably my favorite coin, along with the Perth lunar tigers. I like the grizzly a lot too though, at least it looks realistic.

  20. I got mine a few days ago and agree that it looks cartoon like. I still like it though. Nice and shiny :smile. TC

I got mine yesterday and while no means my favorite I like it. I do think it looks better in your hand than the illustration.
