do any of you think its worth the time and effort to collect pure nickel coins? i have an opportunity to get a few at half the nickel value but was wondering if the coins would hold or appreciate in value over time. thanks in advance :)

There is nothing wrong with your idea. But I would recommend that you never pay more than face value for the coins unless there is a numismatic premium involved and you know a lot about grading.

Half melt value is good. It gives you a nice cushion if prices fall.
But, like copper, nickel is sold by the pound (or kg). So you need a substantial amount to make it worthwhile.

Its not a bad thought, but in my experience refiners pay further from melt for anything other than PM. If its just a few coins its fine, but I would give a call to a refiner to see what they are paying in relation to spot.

If you are getting them at half melt I don't see how you can lose. I have been thinking about buying come old Canadian nickels as they are .999 nickel and are about the only way I have found to invest in nickel bullion. I would be interested in finding out where to find other options for investing in nickel though.
