I have noticed that various places are starting to sell John Mercanti signed 2011 ASE slabs. So far I have seen MS69&70 as well as "W" and "S" signed versions. He will be signing slabbed proof versions too. Im not particularly fond of slabbed bullion although I do own 2 of the slabbed 2011 MS69 "S" ASE'S. What are the opinions of the Mercanti signed slabs? Do you think they will be rare, valuable, or just hype. Apparently Mercanti signed each individual slab by hand and its not a print or photocopy. I wouldnt imagine too many of these are being made.
I have seen a few Pcgs Proof-69&70 with JM signed with & 25th av label at 5% premium. But who knows what got to happen in the ASE market?I wish I did. :kewl:
I am the same way with ase's, I dont like getting them slabbed, but like you, I do have an unc 11 ms70 and a 11 ms 70"s" (my only 2 slabbed eagles). I am currently looking at pr70 uc's and mercantis. I think the sigs will not be worth the risk to dump a ton of money into one hoping for a return in the long run. My experience is, "its always worth more when you are dead! So my honest opinion is maybe when he dies they will pull a decent premium. I wish him the best!
Figure out how much you are willing to pay for the ASE, how much the plastic holder is worth, and how much you would pay for a Mercanti autograph. Add the three together and that is the answer.
Not to double post, but if I was to get one the burnished autographed one was the one I would be getting. For those that do not know, the ase's in 06-08 got a special burnished blank to be struck on. The were unc with a west point mintmark, as you know, the westpoint mintmark is exclusive to ase proofs. The continuation of the "burnished die" in 2011 will be a hot seller because everyone thought the program was over. So theres my reasoning for me atleast purchasing the burnished autograph if its not to ridiculously priced.
I do not know mintage numbers but the other 3 yrs were not that much (2006 especially), but what I meant by "hot" was the amount minted will more than likely immediately sell out, and if the numbers are in line with previous yrs, there wont be many to go around.
I have 2 of the burnished ASE's. They come in a blue mint box and airtite holder similar to the proofs.
That means you have 2007 and 2008 . 2006 comes in a velvet pouch within a box. I have all 3 yrs x2. Thought they were going to stop because of the shortage but looks like they will pump them out whenever they can now.
You are correct. I just checked my records and I am in need of the 2006 Burnished. Apparently APMEX has them for $100. Wow that's quite an appreciation over 5 years!
you can find them for cheaper, i have bought both my 2006's on ebay 1 for 53 dollars sniped, (the latest score was $60 even with free shipping about 2 months ago) But it all depends on the comfortability of the sale i guess. Good luck!!
