I have posted in the paper money fourm, thought this fourm section would also get some attention.

I was wondering if anyone has seen one these and if they are rare. I have not seen one before. I bought it on the fly with out doing any research because thought it it was kinda cool and I do not have one in my collection.

My dad told me they did this in the 60's. I looked for a while for them but never found one. I figured he was crazy. Where did you get it and do they have more?

I found it on ebay today. It was a buy it now and it caught my eye. I was going to do some research before buying it but then just decide to take a chance on it before it was gone. If its not worth what I paid at least its a cool conversation piece. The seller did not have more of them.

Tuff to tell from the picture but it looks like grains of silver below a piece of a silver certificate. Back in the day if you had a silver certificate, you could cash them in for grains of silver. They would measure out a dollars worth depending on the price of silver that day. It was difficult to say how pure the silver was and if you were really getting a dollars worth. Not sure if it is rare or not, but pretty cool for sure.

I'm not sure if this was a home made item or not. Here is a pic of the back. The pictures on the ebay listing where not that great.

So the whole bill is there, it's just all folded up. Even if it was home made it's cool. Imagine the day when you could trade a dollar for some silver and have it amount to something.

Yeah it looks to be all there. Im not sure if the bill has been cut or if its just folded up. The reason I think it might be home made is because you would think if you would trade in a silver cert. that you would just get the silver back and no bill. But yeah it is neat because I can Read the engraving and talks about the silver coming from the U.S Treasury.

It's prob home made and they included another silver cert in there. They are worth maybe $3 circulated and $10 uncirculated. The silver for me is the real cool part.
