i been looking into junk gold filler and gold plated... if i had over 1000 grams of it about what would it yield in real gold does any body have a idea???:smile thanks
I have thought about this before. Also the ebay sellers of "500 mills gold". 500 mg of gold (half gram) is worth about $25 today... 100 mills should yield $5 of gold. But I would never trust the weight of those bars. interesting topic.. Not sure what the refining costs would be of plated gold.
Read the ad very carefully and wonder if the seller didn't "accidentally" spell mils ( a term in the plating industry meaning 1 millionth of an inch plate [1/1,000,000 inch] ) as mills , which has no definition as to weight, purity , or thickness. Many hope that people interpret it as milligrams or millimeters, when it is really not. Gold exchanges, jewelers, and refiners would not touch it, as separation expenses would be many times worth the gold extracted. Jim
This might help http://www.tanury.com/glossary.htm But I have noticed that some electroplaters use "mil" for other thickness such as 1/1000 or 1/10,000. But this is interesting also http://about.ag/millssilver.htm Jim
