Anyone here shelling out 2 large for one of these? The previous issues of lower mintages demand a decent premium now but dang that is a large hunk of cash to tie up. Really nice looking coin though.
I like the design a lot, however Platinum is within 5% of its all time high (inflation adjusted, or otherwise) so I am much more interested in the (more affordable, and also more likely to have substantial gains IMO) Palladium coins coming out this year. No small chunk of change on those either though. Then again, how many people can say they have a 1 oz APE? ;]
I don't know much about proof editions of bullion coins but I've always wanted the 4 piece proof set of platinum eagles. I have a 1 ounce Plat Koala (beautiful coin BTW), and would like to buy another or a 1 ounce Platinum eagle (business strike).
They are doing better with the design on the reverse. However I still think that liberty on the front is gawd awful ugly. It looks like an angry drag queen.
I hadn't realized they stopped until I read this post...then again, I never paid much attention to these coins. Why did they stop making them?
