The plastic holders used by the Mint for the new 2010 "P" unc. 5 0z ATB coins appears to allow the coins to slide around inside the holder causing damage to the edges of the coin.

Does anyone have any experience using the Air-Tites made for these coins:

    #1129 AT Holder Z5 Capsule.

Do the Air-Tites hold the ATB 5 oz securely in the case or do the ATB coins slide in these holders also?

I was thinking about replacing the Mints' plastic holders. :thumb:

I have both and I don't think the Z-airtites are any better. In fact, I like the mint holder the best.

Mine barely moves. I believe it you push down on the edges it gets tighter and holds the coin pretty well. That's what I did and now it can barely wiggle. BTW I have 4 P coins and they were are "loosely" put together.

The reason for the play in the mint holder is that they need a little room for the brillo pad pieces that they ship with every coin. It's just a little something to finish off the "look".:smile

Mine was just a little loose, but after pressing it tightly together, mine fit perfect and do not move at all. Although over the years when I have ordered several of a same item, I have received holders that were not all identical.

Squeeze it tight, it will get the wiggle room out.

My 2 ATB 5oz UNC P coins do rattle a bit. The way I store them is like all my important coins, in the bank safe deposit box is:

1- I leave them in their gov't holders.
2- I put them in resealable Reynolds Vacuum sucking bags.
3- I add 1-2 pks. of silica pouches(like in Rx containers). I got them on ebay from Malaysia very cheaply, and they'll change color if moist.
4- I suck the air out of all these vacuum valved bags with a $10 had vac sucker that works well.

So, my coins are sealed in a thick plastic gov't case; encased in a plastic bag with a couple of silica packets, and all the air sucked out. Then put in a temperature controlled, dark bank safe deposit box.
Any time I want to look at them or add to the bag I just bring the hand held vacuum sucker and reseal the bag after opening. Easy enough and I feel I've done the safe thing for my coins.
