Luckily I was not the one who got the QC on the Isabella. I bought it in that slab, cracked it, and got the straight grade. So this was a nice win. I have been stubborn on a few coins. My worst case was subbing a toned Franklin 4 times because it kept getting different results: AU 55 (too low) -> MS 62 (still thought it was low) -> Unc Details damaged (that was even worse) -> MS 62 (here I gave up since it was back in a straight graded holder). I also had a toned Morgan that went details two times (two different reasons) that I did sell. If someone manages to get that one into a straight graded holder, they will do really well. So yes there are some wins and some losses (and yes the losses sting a little more but we should remind ourselves of the wins more often). The Peacock has multiple varieties and at one point I wanted to collect them all. The issue is some rarely show up for sale and when they do, they can be very expensive. I saw CRO post a potentially unique silver version. The price was 4,975! Link to CU thread about this silver one: https://forums.collectors.com/discu...rible-track-record-at-cro-extended-once-again I did manage to find the same M21 as yours on eBay last year. I was shocked that I won it for less than I paid for the AU 58! I had a modest placeholder bid. At the end, I entered a significant snipe but no one outbid my placeholder! Here is the video for it: https://www.instagram.com/p/CW6QAs4LffY/ Here is a thread that mentions some varieties: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/the-peacock-has-landed.329391/
I like that Pillar you added; the contrast is definitely appealing. Thanks! A Trade Dollar eluded me for many years before this one became available. I have a lower graded details example in a Dansco type set and previously owned a semi-pl one with a chopmark. That one however was cleaned. The hairlines were fairly clear at an angle (unfortunately NGC only mentioned details chop mark and not the cleaning). I sold that one for a loss but this one came around soon after (to help forget that experience). The territorial issues are another segment that I enjoy. I've toyed around with doing the 1883 set for Hawaii (Dime, Quarter, Half, Dollar and maybe the 1847 cent) but I have not found the right combo of eye appeal and price for most (finally picked up a Quarter several months ago, so I'm part way there). The Guatemala Peso has off the charts luster but there are plenty of nicks/small hits (along with the mark you mentioned). In US terms, it's like a baggy early strike 1881-S Morgan (luster, pl, and hits). I think 62 is a fair grade (maybe a 63 on a good day). Regardless, the eye appeal had me hooked!
I agreee- 62 is a fair technical grade on the Guatemalan, but I stand by my earlier statement that it has MS65 eye appeal.
These Jadwigas are surprisingly hard to find already slabbed. My example came from an international (I believe German) seller on eBay. I later found two more but sold both as neither had as much eye appeal (luster was a bit weaker). I've seen one nicely toned example but that is owned by a person on the PCGS forums and he isn't selling. The lighter colored rectangular area is the toning. It almost looks like something was on top of the coin and the toning formed around it. This link shows an untoned example: https://en.ucoin.net/coin/portugal-8-euro-2004/?tid=29644 I'm glad I was able to add a Kazakhstan coin to your collection! It has become my favorite mint as they have made a ton of cool coins (the only downside is that they have been slow in releasing new coins the past few years and you can't buy direct-only locals can and then I buy from them on eBay).
