"Finally, some readers have reported that the US Mint's phone representatives provided a release date of June 7, 2011 for the next numismatic release featuring Yosemite National Park." http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/2011-platinum-eagles-atb-five-ounce.html With these things coming so fast, I better get used to PB&J sandwiches
Yes, these are being released quickly (about every 3 weeks) so far since April 28th. If someone wants to buy all 10 projected to be released by the end of this year (2010-2011), that will cost close to $2,800 at current pricing. I like the looks of these, but can see this program being a bust as well, especially if some do not sell well and multiple issues are available on the Mint website at the same time and/or silver spot stays the same or decreases. I think interest will wane as the more iconic sites have their coins issued and we are left with the more obscure places. Hot Springs sold out because it was the first in the series. As a national park, however, it's not that great. Yellowstone and Yosemite should sell out because they are tremendous places. Grand Canyon may all sell. Mount Hood is not even a national park, so I don't think we will see them all sell. Gettysburg and Vicksburg are not national parks, so they're up in the air. Glacier is fantastic, but not as many people go there as Yellowstone ahd Yosemite. Olympic is nice, but not up to the caliber of some of the others. Chicasaw had its national park status revoked and is pretty much just a recreational area. In summary, we should see 4 sell-outs or 5 at most by the end of this year. The Mint's strategy to have 1 site represented from each state rather than have all of the national parks represented is going to cost them a fair amount of sales. We have no Grand Tetons, no Crater Lake, no Death Valley, no Bryce Canyon. We do, however, have Chicasaw and the Shawnee National Forest. Oh, boy! Actually, out of the 56 coins that are due to be issued, less than 20 actually honor a national park. Instead of having all of the most beautiful and inspiring places in our country represented, we have once again surrendered ourselves to the overplayed concept of political correctness. Sigh.
TreeHugger...it is the America's Beautiful National Parks and will have a National Park or other National Site. National Forests are considered in the list, thus you get Mount Hood, El Yunque in Puerto Rico next year, etc. Give this list http://www.nationalparks.org/discover-parks/?fa=complete-list which does include Chickasaw a look, along with the National Forests...may better explain the locations in the program.
The 2010s are limited to 27,000 and will probably all sell out, however we have no idea what the mintage limit will be for the 2011s. A lot rides on the price of silver. If it tanks, the future issues may have reduced prices and higher mintages.
I'm thinking pretty much the same thing. Well, the first 4 of 2010 for sure. I'm not convinced about Mount Hood. As you have said, 2011 is anybody's guess.
I am convinced that all of the 2010 releases will sell out just due to the hype/limited mintage. A lot of people will want to complete the set etc. Hopefully once the get caught up selling the 2010's & 11's at this point then they can slow down the pace of the releases. It would be nice if they adjusted their prices downward, but that is not likely to happen. I think the program will continue to be of interest to people as long as silver keeps going up, with this current $35~ flatline since the big jump there are definitely some people who have lost interest. Personally I am committed to the 2010's... only time will tell for the rest...
I've purchased the first two ATB's and have one in hand (Hot Springs). Yellowstone is in-stock and reserved. I think that I'm in for the rest of them but I guess time will. On the good side of this program, both hockey pucks are currently selling for over $300/each on ebay. They have appreciated over 10% in less than a month. Not bad.
I think we are dealing a little with the ghost of Mr Moy. If he would have kept this program on track, you wouldn't have all these releases hitting at once. That in itself is not helping the series. If the planned 100,000 mintage figure is still accurate for the balance of the coins, they will need to eliminate household limits, allow the overseas selling markets to further develop and keep advertising this program heavily. The price of silver could affect sales both ways. If it goes up, you will get the investors and flippers back in the game with their purchases. If it goes down, you will open up the market to the younger and less affluent collectors who can't keep up with the cost of a complete set. So silver prices become a double edged sword.
That figure is for the 2011 bullion pieces and beyond, not the collector series. I have to remember we are not talking bullion coins even though this is posted in the bullion area.
I wonder how often the US Mint's site updated. I've got two of the 2010 "P" already. Hopefully the next one the price drops. Like another member has said, I'm fully committed to the 2010 set. Currently I have two 2010 circulated sets pending and two sets out of 2 of 5 "P".
Yeah, since the unc P's are on The Mint's PM pricing grid, how often is the price updated? In time for Yosemite?
I just got my Yellowstone and am completely Sold on the 2010 P Set. I would love to have multiples of Yosemite and Grand Cannon. I am a some what new collector. I won't be able to by any more Morgans, Franklin or Peace dollars until after July. This 3 week in between is ridiculous. The MT Hood coin will be beautiful as for the rest of the years I don't think Im in. If they forget to put the limit on June 9, I am going to buy all 27,000 of the Yosemite. I have some Doubling on my Yellowstone maybe Machine maybe not.
All 27000, eh? That's a paltry 7.56million. Question is: would the mint ship them all for $4.95? Anyway, I'm all for buying the whole lot and melting all but maybe ten of them. Insta-rarity! Let the auctioning begin. Unfortunately, I'll be in possession of one, substantially reducing the benefit of buying the other 26999 for yourself.
