In taking a break from all of the 5-ounce ATB discussions, take a look at this Kilo Mexican Aztec Calendar. Would you pay what they are asking? It's a beautiful coin. In fact, it's 1 of the better prices for this particular coin that I've seen. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230622689378&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I'm not in the market for such a thing even though it's beautiful, there are better ways to "stack" silver than this. I don't believe there's a huge premium on an item like this but I suspect the owner is buried in it and wants to recoup their losses anyway they can. JMHO
I wouldn't. The price of silver is still dropping or leveling off. I would probably pay maybe a hundred more then what it is worth in silver. They say only 1500 Minted! The problem is that 1500 people are going to have it. It wouldn't be considered rare. I don't see it jumping up that much for value in the future. It is a beautiful piece though.
This one's about 1k less ATM http://cgi.ebay.com/2011-1-Kilo-Azt...&ps=63&clkid=24418580928053883#ht_1407wt_1139
These coins are quite nice looking and high quality. The proofs are not that common. However it's a numismatic buy and/or one that you buy to treat yourself just because you like the coin. I say if you like it get it. In the long run you won't regret it. (of course only if you can verify that it is real)
No, but if it appeals to you that much enjoy! I collect coins as a hobby and the price of the metal has nothing to do with what I see as their value. I buy bars and generic rounds for weight. I also have American Eagles as I see them as a a top grade bullion coin that brings a bit over spot.
Having seen the real Aztec calendar stone in the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City many, many years ago, the coin is a beautifully-minted subject of pre-Columbian art with modern minting techniques. Anyone who might purchase this coin would obtain quite a beauty.
Never in my life would I spend that much on e bay. But it's nice to look at in the photos, you still never know what you're getting.
