Here are pics (not my coins) of the Hot Springs 5 ounce silver bullion coin graded MS69DMPL by PCGS and the Hot Springs 5 ounce silver collector coin graded SP70 by PCGS. Which coin looks more attractive/appealing to you. Forget about cost, silver spot or investment. Let's get superficial and vote on looks alone. TC
I like the contrast in the details on the bullion MS69 coin. A question for you TC, someone who had a collector coin with that SP70 designation said PCGS notified him it was an error and to send it back for the proper labeling. It should be MS70? Have you been notified about it? If not, what does the SP stand for? And don't say Special Phinish.
That is news to me. I thought the collector version was getting the SP designation. I believe SP stands for Specimen or Specimen Proof. As I stated in the original post, these are not my coins so not sure about the error in labeling. TC
It would have to be Specimen only. The word Proof refers to how it was made and these coins were not made that way.
TC; FYI, I just checked out the PCGS glossary and it identifies SP as meaning "Specimen", which intern says: see "Specimen Strike", which intern means coins struck by the mint between 1792-1816 with a special finish different in regards to regular coinage. It doesn't refer to the ATB coins at all, at least not by definition. Perhaps that previous post about re-labeling might have some merit. It was in one of the many ATB threads here on CT. I'll see if I can find it. If I can't, I might go back and see if there is anything on the PCGS boards about it.
i think they both look good. with the different photographers (assuming) and different lighting its hard to tell. Would like to see them both together in the same shot. By a dumb luck, i was able to get a set of the 2010 ms69DMPL. Does anyone know where to get the actual mintage # from the mint? also, is there a way to see how many pcgs graded ms69? they are impressive to see.
Hard to tell, but, that unc P mint appears to have the lines/ripples through Springs. Can anyone else tell if it does?
