Anyone care to put me in the right direction here? I'm interested in buying a 1oz(small I know) silver bar for my first purchase. I've read some soggy reviews on both(Scottsdale and APMEX) about not being top notch quality and have alot of imperfections, and i've also read about them both being the best of the best.

I'm leaning towards Scottsdale as of now and will probably order before midnight tonight? Anything I should know?

    Thanks!:hail:

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

Shipping and handling will cost you. Try a local coin dealer, they usually have nice bars and rounds. Maybe a lower premium, too.

You don't need "perfect" for an ounce of silver. You just need an ounce. I would not waste my money on mail-order.

Check out garage/estate sales, pawn shops, coin stores, flea markets, antique stores. I've found silver coins/rounds in all of the above, at below spot. Guaranteed: You'll feel better getting it locally at below its close today of $43+.

EDIT: Bigjohn56, below, has a good idea, which I took advantage of. Better act quickly, though.

Take advantage of one of the promotional specials that Universal Coin and Bullion or one of their sister companies offers. You will get your silver for less than spot with free shipping. Do a search in these forums. Some of these deals end today.

I've heard a few good things about Universal Coin and Bullion also, so I took advantage of their 2011 silver eagle for 32.50 yesterday. From scottsdale, you can buy the "1 Troy ounce - Special offering" that comes with free shipping, although you will get a random bar or coin that may or may not be in new condition. Thats what I did last year, and after the good experience, I bought two of the little 10oz stackers. :)

Theres not a local coin dealer within 120 miles of me and I would probably come out cheaper with mail ordering than buying fuel for a 4wd truck. I live in Eastern Kentucky so the nearest dealer according to google is in Lexington. I only travel there for basketball during the season.

Right now Scottsdale Silver has free shipping anywhere in the USA for 1 troy ounce silver bar. Thats why i was leaning towards them because of the shipping. I heard APMEX is out of the world unless you buy in bulk.

APMEX has free shipping right now for first orders made on mobile devices, expires 4/31 i believe.

It's true that I don't need the "perfect" ounce of silver. I suppose I could have worded my original question better. The bad reviews i've read expressed concern that the silver bars weren't legit and so I guess my question should of been reputable is Scottsdale & APMEX. From reading though, Scottsdale seems like the best bet.

I've checked pawn shops and they have none(Coins nor bars). Had all sorts of items but didn't have those. Some nice guns though.

I may check the fleamarket next week. I've got a friend that works as a cashier & counts the money before closing each night and have him looking for any quarters pre-1965 and such, so maybe i'll luck out this way.

I'm considering buying some coins from eBAY too. They seem to be reasonable on some of their stuff, but some of the stuff is priced is insane. I just have $100.00 to blow, so maybe a 1oz bar from Scottsdale and some scrap from eBAY?

I wish I had gotten into coins/silver along time ago, regardless of the value. Some of those coins are awesome, and it's a pretty addicting hobby.

    Thanks for the help!
