Well, I'm not sure my wife would agree that "you made me drop over $800 on a coin" constitutes a "kind remark". :) (Actually, I did discuss it with her before jumping, and she approved as well.)

    Seriously, thanks -- again!

My unfulfilled desire for the AGE Reverse Proof led to a profit tracking campaign that ultimately paid off in some green lighted spouses!

No offense, but I just don't see the first spouse collection having much interest at all... the final production numbers reflect that pretty well, imho. If you guys think it's a great investment, well... that means you're happy with it, and hey, it's your money your spending. I just don't want anybody reading this thread and being like, "OMG LESS THAN 5K COINS EACH SUPER DUPER AWESOME INVESTMENT!!!11" as there are plenty of coins with low mintages out there that don't demand heavy premiums.

Yeah, but ya know? These are "gold" and they're low mintage.....:) Gold and low mintage seem to go hand in hand with appreciation. :)

True. I discourage the purchase of any spouse coins until 2015.

Now that we're in April I decided to double check on my Fillmore uncirculated to see again what the expected shipdate was. I ordered this coin back when this thread first started - it was this thread that made me decide to hop on it and buy the Jane Pierce and Fillmore uncs in fear that they would sell out. I got the Pierce, but the Fillmore was backordered and then a bit later they claimed a sellout.

Anyway, I signed onto the mint website and double checked. They moved the ship date back from 04-05 to 04-19.

Now, previously in this thread the discussion was that they may have had to catch up on accessories for the coins, and then another idea that they had to ship from West Point to the shipping center. But with all the time that's gone by, I'm wondering if some of these ideas may have changed. I'm wondering if they are actually going to have to mint a few more of these coins that were ordered before the sell out was announced?

The Abigail Fillmore Uncirculated coin IS sold out; the Proof is still available...which is odd because it's usually the Proof that sells out first. We were guessing as to why the coins might be "backordered" vs. "sold out". The Mint eventually listed them as "sold out" so our speculations was for naught.

Where do you see a shipment date of 4-19? ...for which coin(s)? As near as I can tell, there are only four (4) of the eight (8) coins normally available; Fillmore Proof, Buchanan Unc, Lincoln Unc & Proof.

It may be possible that the Mint may still honor some orders if they receive "returns", but the early sell out suggests that they estimated future sales and simply ran out of coins early. I would call and see what they say...good luck!!

I double the thumbs up. :thumb::thumb:
I think this series has real potential. There are several factors that I feel will actually help its long term value.
    1) It is not very popular.
    2) Its expensive. (compared to other commems)
    3) It will take real commitment to acquire a full set.
    4) The mint is obligated to finish the series. (see post item 1)

My only worry is that we might have already seen the real keys of the set already. (The Tylers. Pierce)

I'm not really sure what to make of this series in relation to the price of gold.
If gold goes up by a lot then people might send in FS for melt. This would be good for those of us that hang on to them assuming gold eventually goes back up.
If gold goes down then the will be less expensive to collect, and might become more popular, and that might be bad.

Hard to say. Some real speculation going on here.

Well, the mint sent me an update about a month ago saying that the shipdate was for 04/05. So I logged into my account today on usmint.gov and looked at my orders. There was a notice for the uncirculated Fillmore with a shipdate date of 04-19.

I guess I am going to have to call them; make sure I'm not getting hosed around.

Yes, Yakpoo, you are right. The only way that order will get fulfilled is through a return or cancellation. With the coin being sold out, there's fat chance I'm going to get one. They can't give me info on the odds or how long I have to wait. But, I'm wondering if I would want a coin that's been returned. I guess I'm going to have to look to the secondary market. yuk.

There's already rumors of some Dealers sending "less than perfect" earlier issues to the smelter. Coin World has been trying to come up with some numbers, but I haven't heard anything, yet. At some point (50-70 years from now...who knows?) this set will be "unattainable" for all but the wealthiest collectors...imho.

I also believe that if gold prices go up much from here, there will be some new "keys" in the offing. I have to admit that these early sellouts are encouraging in a way. If the Mint has poor sales throughout the year, they may estimate a small number for a December release. Since the coins can only be struck during the year inscribed on the coin, there could be some major miscalculations in the next few years. :D

Order them on the first day of sales if you can! :thumb:

The Buchanan Uncirculated FS "Death Watch" begins.

It's just a matter of time...the Buchanan Unc is on "Back Order". This usually happens just before they take a FS coin off life support. :angelic2:

That will leave the Abigail Fillmore Proof and Mary Lincoln Proof and Unc as the only FS coins left available. There's a lotta conjecture about the FS program either coming to a premature end or possibly changing to a 1/4 Oz coin. :(

Many collectors (me, anyway) trust the US Mint to finish what they start. I would be disappointed if they stopped/changed the program. I began collecting the 1/2 Oz coins and want to finish "the complete set" with same-spec'ed coins.

I don't know what's going on, but "something" is clearly in the works at the US Mint. New Mint Director...Sell Outs without replacements...this can't be good! :pacing:

Isn't this the same Mint that changed the size of the last year's proof box so that the 50 state quarters collectors couldn't fit their sets into their boxes?

Same here but I came late to the game. Because of that I've had to pay higher prices for some of the coins. Time will tell if I sold my cows for magic beans or not. I have latched on to this series as my only real "gold" collection. I'm trying to get a UNC set. I'm only missing 4 out of the 17. I do have a filmore proof but would prefer a UNC but didn't order it in time.
I would be disappointed if they changed these to a difference denomination. I do not really care for the $5 golds in the commem series.

    Looks like you are.
The Proof Filmore and Mary Todd UNC and PROOF are the only ones you can still buy from the mint.

Mintages on the Liberty sub set:

    Proof:
    20000 Jefferson
    7806 Jackson
    7515 VanBuren
    7304 Buchanan

    Unc:
    20000 Jefferson
    5579 Buchanan
    4754 Jackson
    4334 VanBuren

It looks like the VanBurens were a good buy.
