I am not a large cent guy but my grandson picked this piece up today and sent me a photo of it. I am wondering about the second “5” in the date being placed lower than the other digits in the date. I consulted my Redbook and I see slanted 5’s and upright 5’s…. I don’t see anything about one high and one low 5. Is this characteristic for an 1855 large cent?
There was a thread about this coin about 5 1/2 years ago. 1855 Large Cent variety question | Coin Talk @Mark Metzger posted it.
I been working Google trying to find info on large cent varieties. Where can I find a link to send to the boy so he can learn more about it?
PCGS CoinFacts also has some decent images on line: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1855-1c-n-1-upright-55-bn/406145
Yeah, my apologies on that. I had to manipulate the boys photos to make them reasonably usable. I’ll work with him on his coin photo skills.
