I have been collecting the series of proof silver eagles. I see Apmex just raised their sell price. What are these worth realistically on a wholesale level?
If you have to dump them, they are always worth the spot price of silver. Most dealers would probaly offer you 80-90% of spot. Ofcourse if you are buying you will have to pay a 3-4 dollar premium over spot. The market for them is kinda crazy right now. Nobody cares that it is a proof or a low mintage, everybody wants to melt it.
I don't know if I agree with that assessment. Proof ASEs were 40,60, $80 when silver was $17. They do have collector value over the standard ASEs. They're not equivalent to a pile of beat up Washington quarters. I have no idea what their value is now but there's no way I'd sell any for anywhere near melt.
they carry a premium over spot for sure. Dealers pay at least $1.50 over spot for ASE's, so as long as they have a market for Proofs they will make you a fair offer in return. If a dealer were to offer you below spot, then I'd trash them on every forum and rating site available.
