I'm glad these are going directly to the public. What if all the APs sold them only to dealers and associates like apparently Dillon Gage did...

Does any of the APs have these for sale still?

Also, does anyone know what happened to the other 3,000+ sets that AMPEX was allocated?

Those are the questions! MTB may post more on flea bay, Hunt may activate their sales site from time to time, CnT may not have sold everything yesterday, etc... It's a mess really since few seem to just say how many they have left at any given point.

So far as I've read, AMPEX is the most likely source remaining. They sure are taking their time if they are sitting on that many!

Fidelitrade *still* has their offer posted on their splash page. Hard to believe those sets have not been claimed yet, but you could still fill out that form and overnight it. FT at least did say how many they had as of 3/11...good for them.

Jack Hunt has not notified me of payment receipt. Patience is the name of this game. I have delivery confirmation, so it's not lost and I don't really need notice due to that. :)

I'm impressed with Jack Hunt so far. It kind of sucked having to get a money order instead of just paying online, but no big deal really, and the process of getting them shipped out took alot less time than I thought, especially because they are not use to dealing with the public like this(usually just other dealers), and they shipped fedex and my package is due to arrive in 2 days. We will see how they packaged them, but overall, a great deal, especially the price!

Yes, it is a great price and a weeks total turnaround to ship isn't bad at all. The money order was a hassle but my bank gives me money orders and cashiers checks for free. I mailed my order via snail mail on Monday.

i was i bit skeptical too, i really dont like to pay for things by check, i like the security of plastic. these ap's really communicate well throughout the process to make the buyers feel at ease, they're doing a great job imo.

Why do some think APMEX still has 3,000 sets left? The Mint deals with 11 dealers. There were 33,000 sets made. So, did the mint divide the sets evenly, giving each dealer 3,000 sets? If so, APMEX doesn't have 3,000 sets left. Does anyone know if the mint evenly divides them between the dealers?

2 APs did not participate so 33,000 / 9 = 3,667 sets each for the remaining 9 participating APs.

Those who participated were given the chance to claim the unallocated sets, and it would be safe to assume that they all did given the interest level.

So assume 3,667 sets to Apmex, they sold 1,000 during their initial release however a bunch of those would have been people ordering 3,4,5 etc sets as the guidelines of one per household were not in force when they took the orders. They only shipped one set per household in the end and refunded the balance to customers with multi-set orders.

Give or take a few, it's safe to assume they have 3,000 sets to sell. The only question is when.

Nine out of eleven of the US Mint's authorized purchasers have decided to go along with the new terms and conditions covering the distribution of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins.
The 5 ounce silver bullion coins featuring duplicate designs of the circulating quarter dollar series became hot items once collectors learned of the limited mintage of just 33,000 coins per design. Based on the high demand and limited supply available, one of the US Mint's primary distributors began accepting orders for the coins at a premium considered to be excessive.

Complaints from customers caused the US Mint to halt and relaunch the program with price controls and other measures to ensure broad distribution to the public. In order to participate in the distribution of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins, the primary distributors had to agree to sell all coins directly to the public, limit premiums to 10% above acquisition cost, and impose household ordering limits. The rules seemed problematic for some of the distributors who generally only sell in bulk quantities to other dealers.

The US Mint's eleven primary distributors were able to place orders with the United States Mint from December 10 to 17. The nine who purchase their allotments of 3,000 coins of each designs are included below:

    A-Mark Precious Metals (Los Angeles)
    Coins 'N Things (Massachusetts)
    MTB (New York)
American Precious Metals Exchange, Inc. (Oklahaoma)
Dillon Gage Incorporated of Dallas (Texas)
    Prudential Securities Inc. (New York)
    The Gold Center (Illinois)
Jack Hunt Coin Broker (New York)
    Fidelitrade (Delaware)

The coins allocated to the two primary distributors who did not place orders will be reallocated to active sellers this week.

In the first quarter of 2011, the United States Mint plans to offer numismatic versions of the 2010 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins. These would be limited to 27,000 coins per design and sold directly to the public via the US Mint's website and by telephone.
