I love this chart. For those who bought (and held) in the 1981 through 2005 "saddle" - congratulations!
For those who sold silver in 1981 and reinvested it in the DJIA when it was below 1,000, congratulations even more! Or those who sold silver and bought long term treasury bonds with double digit yields, congratulations! Or those who bough a house for $100K that is now worth $500K, congratulations!
I think I would love the chart had I been old enough and wise enough to buy silver during that dip...
Anyone who was brilliant enough to buy near the low in 1981 went 20 years with no return at a time when earning 9% or more annually was a no brainer. You didn't miss anything.
Yeah, it was really undervalued for some time there... I remember watching Shop-at-home and thinking, That $189 for a roll of silver eagles was outrageous!
teehehe ;-) I remember when I bought a roll of silver eagles for under $100 including S&H. Many of us were always buying around $4-5 and have kept it up. I was never really a gold bug (too poor) but was able with wifey to buy our first roll of AGE's at a POG of $335. cha-ching! peace, rono
I may be in the minority crowd here but I don't view my holdings of PM's as an investment in the traditional sense. I look at them more as a form of insurance should I need it. That being said I invest from time to time by using profits off of other investments.
