The Proof Buchanan Liberty SELLS OUT!!! The Unc Buchanan Liberty is the last Liberty available from the Mint. From now on, anyone wanting the proof Liberty series will have to PAY $$$
It's interesting but the UNCs all have lower mintages than the PROOFs. Has there ever been a case when an UNC coin sold for a premium over the PROOF?
Not from the Mint. However, in Coin World, Modern Coin Mart runs full page adds to buy gold coins (including FS coins). They often offer a premium for the Unc coins over the Proofs...Julia Tyler, for instance.
i think ... not 100% sure ... that the Jackie Robinson $5 Gold coin has a large premium for the UNC over the PROOF ?????
"The coin also represented the final issue of the "Liberty Subset". The four coins included use images of Liberty from classic U.S. coins since the Presidents served in office without a spouse." http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/ So, what about Chester Arthur? His wife died in Jan of 1880. Arthur didn't take office until Sept. 1881.
That will be represented by Alice Paul, an important suffragette who was born during Arther's presidency. I think this is going to make for a awkward two coin set...
Interesting, Ladies First. How do you know this? Also, why "two coin set"? You mean the proof and unc? Why awkward?
Okay: "Alice Paul is also scheduled to appear on a United States half-ounce $10 gold coin in 2012, as part of the so-called "First Spouse" program. A provision in the Presidential $1 Coin Program (see Pub.L. 109-145, 119 Stat. 2664, enacted December 22, 2005) directs that Presidential spouses be honored. As President Chester A. Arthur was a widower, Paul is representing Arthur's era." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_Paul Well, it'll probably be a pretty drab portrait, if the others are any indication. I like a couple of the 2011 portraits, though, so maybe they'll do it justice. I've always liked the Susie B.s, even if she was made to look pretty stern. Still like to know about the awkward and the two coin set.
Awkward for the Spouse Sets. Chester Arthur will be paired with the infant Alice Paul? Maybe a "Fantasy Piece" where they're the same age? An interesting couple either way. PS: I wanted one more Buc NGC PF69 to break out for my 4 coin Liberty box. I even loaded it into my cart... but for $960.00? I haven't clicked Checkout yet!...
I wish there was a way we could get the Alice Paul decision overturned and get one more Liberty. :thumb: How about this one? ...or this one?
Those are truly beautiful coins (I especially like the "chipmunk cheeks" on the 1794 cent), but the restriction is that the liberty design has to be from a coin that was circulating during the presidency of President being honored...in this case, Chester A. Arthur (1881-1885).
Ah, yes, I see. I keep overlooking those. Yes, the prices keep me hesitating also. I usually wait until one of the coins fall into the last chance before I buy it. But, I was reading about the Buchanan's getting low, so I bought one. But I always get the uncirculated and it doesn't yet seem that there's any danger of those running out yet. The one I'm really wondering about is Jane Pierce; it seems as though her mintage is lower than Julia Tyler's.
So the liberty five cent would work. It would be nice to have one more liberty head. But, if they can at least come up with a nice design for Alice Paul, I wouldn't have any complaints. Nice liberties, btw.
Alice Paul was quite beautiful in her day...or course, she's only 16 in this picture. Dunno what image they will actually use.
OMG! How could I have forgotten this representation of Lady Liberty!? Now THAT would make an impressive FS coin (be still, my heart!).
