Hi, I have searched high and low on the Royal Canadian Mints website, and I can't find the 2011 1 oz Maple listed anywhere, meanwhile I can google it and some dealers are selling them. Am I not able to order these from the mint? Im a RCM masters club member and the listing is not buried within those listings either. Where are these dealers getting these from? Thanks
I haven't had any problem finding them but I don't buy from the RCM (ripoff). Maybe go to a coin show???
Howdy, I get mine from my local dealer here in Lansing. But I've bought from GatewestCoin.com (they're in BC and are not cheap to Americans, but have some good stuff). Apmex.com also carries leafs. BTW, Dansco makes an album for leafs, if you're collecting a BU year set. peace, rono
Thanks folks..my intention was to get them right from the mint... in order to not only avoid any markup these dealers would impose, but also take advantage of free shipping from the RCM as a masters Club member.
Here is a place to get them relatively cheap (and now delivered to Canada): http://www.providentmetals.com/2011-1-oz-canada-silver-maple-leaf-coin-brilliant-uncirculated.html TC
Maybe just give them a call? CUSTOMER SOLUTION CENTRE 1-800-267-1871 (Canada) 1-800-268-6468 (US) http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/customerservice/contactus-1100004
Thanks again guys..a few other options here. Im just surprised they are immediatley offered and advertised on their web-site as a collector coin, in which they could be accessed in exactly the same way as any other item.
Have you tried Kitco.com? An alternative to the Silver Maples would be to collect a new series that they started in Canada of 1oz bullion grade coins featuring Canadian Wildlife. The first is the 2011 1oz silver wolf. Beautiful coin. It's still available at some dealers at a price very close to Maples but is fetching a premium on EBAY. The second in the series has just been announce and looks awesome.... a grizzly bear. Here's a link to the announcement: http://www.silvercoinstoday.com/2011-grizzly-silver-coin-second-in-canadian-wildlife-series/103745/ A place I've dealt with before that seems decent is JandM.com out of Vancouver. I think they may still have wolves and you can get maples. Maybe wait and get a few of each. I believe the set of wildlife animals will fetch a good premium once it's completed. They will issue a new coin in the series every six months.
Thanks 45'r. I got the wolf coin...maybe Ill go for the grizzlie...wish they had a collector box that houses the entire series. Ill browse the JM out of Vancouver as well. Thanks all
They are not too likely to come out with something like that because it's a bullion grade coin and they are not doing proof sets like the US mint does with eagles.
The RCM doesn't directly sell bullion silver / gold maple leaves to the public on the website. They sell them to bullion dealers who then sell them to the public. The US Mint operates similarly. The RCM does sell some numismatic versions of maple leaf coins directly. For an example (which I certainly cannot afford): http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/14karat-coloured-gold-4coin-set-2010-prod980016 Or this set (which is sold out): http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/gold-maple-leaf-set-2011-prod1010001 Or this guy in silver (also sold out): http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/silver-piedfort-maple-leaf-coin-2010-prod990006
I got the piedfort. One of my Favs now. They are sold out at the mint but I got it from jandm, which is the dealer I've mentioned so much people will think I'm affiliated (I'm not, in fact I'm on the other side of Canada!) they're an official dealer and as such charge the same prices as the mint does until the item is sold out of their stock. Another really great silver buy for canadiens is a new 1/4 ounce silver coin. It has a $20 tender value and costs $20, no tax, no shipping. However it's limited to 3 per person and only Canucks and only at the mint. You can see it at mint.ca
