The Malaysian state of Kelantan recently started minting gold and silver coins for circulation. How long do you think these will stay in circulation before ending up in collectors hands?
Good question. From what I can tell, they're sold out by the issuer, but more may be minted in 2011. I think its unlikely that they will see much circulation in Indonesia, and very likely that they will end up on the bullion market. Has anyone seen one listed with a dealer?
I have attached a picture of my coin anyone else with one of these I would be interested to know what you know, what it's worth etc I beleive it is very rare that one comes up for sale.
A few other countries mint to the same standard. You may find your coin listed on this site: http://www.islamicmint.com/dinar_dirham/index.html
It's a bit hard to see the coin in that picture. Do you have a scan of the coin? The bigger, and higher DPI the better for identifying it. I've seen that dhow symbol before (on the presentation case), although I can't place it off of the top of my head. There are also some older gold pieces from the Middle East, such as this one: http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/unitedarabemirates.html
im guessing this was minted in 1976, Im told 12000 were originally minted and that the banks have bought a load of them back so even less in circulation today. This is the first uae commemorative coin that they made for their first celebrated anniversary.
