Just got notification from A-Mark that they are shipping my 5oz ATBs via FedEx. After all the effort at buying them getting them now seems like a non-event. But, has anyone else received word? I haven't seen anyone else post it.
Yes, mine shipped today also via FedEx. My order number was 9** and confirmed about 62 mintues after they went on sale.
My friend with order number 930 something just got his notification today. I'm in the same boat as Hamman88 with order 142* so hopefully i'll hear something in the next day or two. On a side note I just got home and recieved notification from Fidelitrade that they have accepted my order so it looks like i'll have 2 sets coming my way!!
Yep, I just today got a notification from Fidelitrade that they accepted my order. So, I also have two sets coming.
A friend of mine received her coins from AMark yesterday, but another with an earlier number has yet to get notification of shipment.
I just now got mine from AMark. Slabbed and graded FS BU by PCGS. The check I cut to Fidelitrade also cleared today. I have to say I think these coins are ugly. They remind me of the wrappers for peppermint patties. Of the 5, Hot Springs looks the best. It's granular background design makes it more suitable for the larger size. It will be interesting to see what the numismatic versions look like. Very well packaged btw.
Got home today and found a nice little email from A-Mark letting me know that my coins had shipped. Probably took longer cause it took a while to find a group of MS70's to send me Order #142x for the curious...
Appearance Opinion For those of you who have actually seen these in person or who own a set of the raw discs, how would you rate them? Would you keep them in your collection or are you so-so toward them? I ordered a set through A-mark and am wondering what to expect. Some say they are amazing; others think they are ugly. I'm curious as to both the design and the production quality. Thanks for your thoughts.
I received a set from the original APMEX batch on Christmas Eve and posted my initial impressions at that time: http://www.cointalk.com/showthread.php?t=145750&p=1063414&viewfull=1#post1063414 I later sold the set at slightly less than the peak of the bubble price. I didn't think the coins were worth my asking price, and I even said so in my auction listing. They still sold in under 10 minutes. I examined an A-Mark set today, and my opinion is unchanged. In my opinion, the extra detail is quite welcome in the Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Grand Canyon coins, less so for Hot Springs and Mt. Hood. On the other hand, the Washington portrait lacks that extra detail and as a result does not transfer well to supersizing. One way or the other, I'll probably end up with a set of the 2010 coins, but I'm not sure if I'm going to try for the "collector's" version or not. But if I buy any of the 2011 or later issues, it'll be because I like a specific design enough to pay a small premium over other silver bullion.
Thanks, benveniste, that helps a lot. I agree also with your puchase strategy for 2011. Right now, the only 2 I am interested in are Glacier and Olympic.
I like them. Very well done and the quality of the A-Mark pieces was excellent. Mine are off to PCGS for grading! Obverse die polish lines are on most of the coins from A-Mark; not bad but noticeable. PL surfaces abound and overall quality is excellent. These 5 coins average 68+ with 2 pieces having the dream shot at a 70. Here's my comments and grades. The A-Mark shipping box is nearly identical in size to a USPS Medium Flat Rate box (which is heading back to PCGS tomorrow!). Grand Canyon has excellent obverse with slight scuff marks on the reverse between Y and O. Should go MS68, MS67 at worst. Hot Springs has tiny rim scratches on the obverse but the reverse looks perfect. MS69. Mount Hood has slight hazing in the obverse fields with tiny rim scratches as well and the reverse has a scratch under 2010. MS67. Yellowstone is very strong on both surfaces with just a couple tiny rim scuffs on the reverse. MS69. Yosemite is also very strong on both surfaces with just a touch of hazing on the reverse. MS69.
Wow, Fishy, thank you for the wonderful pictures! They are the best I have seen. Thanks for your comments also. Your coins seem to be in great shape; the imperfections are not that bad at all. I'm really anxious to receive mine now. Good luck with PCGS. Here's hoping you get at least 1 elusive 70.
If purchasers of these a-mark bu slabs do a cross over to ngc for a higher grade will they still get the first strike attribute from ngc now that ngc first stike deadline is over ? How much is it to have pcgs grade a set like $250 plus you have to open a membership with pcgs and i think the minimum membership is $99 so total to grade them would be around $350 ?
Well the deadline is past for NGC, which was already extended due to the delay in releasing the coins, so unless they make an exception, not it;s too late. $30/AtB 5oz coin @ PCGS = $150 plus s/h & insurance fees. Those without PCGS membership could elect to submit through a dealer with a PCGS membership, no need to buy a subscription.
