Well, there is less than an ounce of silver in this beauty. Collect it for collectors sake. Forget investing. I wouldn't consider this a bullion item either. Usually (on bullion items) there is a weight and fineness stated.

From the mint page that you gave the link for:

    Composition: 99.99% pure silver
    Weight: 7.96 g
    Diameter: 27 mm

They're giving you a $20 coin for $20 and they're even paying to ship it to you. You won't get $20 worth of silver from that deal.

Theoretically this coin could circulate if they made enough of them, which they won't.

The French made some silver and gold coins of this nature in the past 2 years or so where they were sold by the Monnaie de Paris for the stated face value.

    Howdy,

Sure, but it's a mint product so you need to check the premium. I love Mapleleafs and have been buying them for years as cheaply as possible. Last year I also bought a Canadian Wolf because I liked it - even though the premium was higher than that on a Leaf. Bullion purchases that are the BEST investment have the lowest premium (markup over the spot price of the metal) and are still fungible (i.e. easy to buy and sell). You need to consider both. For example, a plain vanilla silver round from the WTF mint in BF Nowhere might have the smallest premium but are you going to be able to sell it easily? Cripes, you can sell an American Silver Eagle almost anywhere. For non-coin bullion - rounds or ingots, you want to stay with either Johnson-Matthey or Engelhard.

And shop around. Chech www.apmex.com and buy a copy of either Coin World or Numismatic News are your local bookstore and check the ads. I've dealt with Paul Sims for year with success but others like others. Here's a listing from my local dealership that shows the premiums they are currently charging. You can find cheaper prices, however, elsewhere.

Would love to get 3 of these, but they won't ship to US. Great way to get some PM exposure and if you are using US $s, you will actually be hedging your currency too! Pretty good deal. Too bad I live in CALIFORNIA!!!!!
