In buying the 2010 American Silver Eagle, do you think it matters if I purchase the NGC PR70 Early Release as opposed to the same grade in the Liberty Label? The latter usually sells for about $10.00 more on ebay. I'm thinking no, but would like to hear your opinions. Thanks.

I would pay no premium for early release, nor label.
Buy the coin, not the slab.

I don't know why anyone pays a premium for silver eagles, there an ounce of silver, no more. Buy raw and pay a few dollars over melt.

The label is meaningless. So is the mythical "First Release".

concur with the crowd. this is a tv sales gimic and only means something if folks are willing to pay for it. you and I can't get the FS coins without paying someone to receive the coin and send it in. what makes this a guarantee that the coins were indeed the first strikes off of new dies? nada. the only way your could actually prove it would be for the MINT to send the coins to be graded.

Also, the first rule is to never, ever, ever buy coins off of a tv channel, ad, whatever. buy from any one of a milllion dealers raw or in tubes for MS and from the mint for proof. I keep my eagles in tubes or in a dansco album. I have sent in for slabbing to NGC via my local dealer some special purchases I had like the 2006 W silver eagles, the fractional MS Ws AGE's from 027 and 08, etc. But not a plain vanilla silver eagle.

    peace,
