I guess since it's listed with the rest of their junk silver, it's junk silver.

Junk is junk as they say. It'll be neat if a few of these ever hit circulation and are pulled by somebody who knows what they are. Probably won't ever happen, but I think it'd be cool.

Yeppers, I consider it normal 90% U.S., but would keep it in with the BU stuff.

What is curious is that I've read where some of the lesser known presidential gold wives are already being sent to the melting pot [read: being sold as 'junk gold'].

I would rather buy old junk, there's a chance you could find a rarer type.

You think if we get blasted back to the stone age people will accept this modern junk? I guess you might be able to prove it's silver by the way it sounds.

And this is the nut. I was looking at a roll of 1996 ASEs for $900 and am getting interested. I'd love to complete a green box set but the '96 is about $55 each. Well, with the POS pushing $30, Eagles are over $30 and the price differential for the rarer pieces is narrowing. Same/same with double eagles and morgans. The base price has gotten so high, the added premiums for some of the better dates is shrinking. Now is the time to take advantage.

    peace,

I have began to notice this same thing. Because of this I'm currently trying to snag a rarer date Peace dollar.

My only question is how did APMEX get ahold of these. I guess I always assumed the mint melted any proof/ silver proof coins that were not up to standards.

Good question. Perhaps from somebody who breaks open large numbers the sets to liberate high-grade pieces, and to whom these are junk.

Unless you believe that someone else would pay a premium for these coins over their value as 90% junk silver coins I don't see any reason to pay the price asked.

However, I have been successful at buying junk silver well under melt. When silver was $28.25 I paid $280 ($8/each) for as set of Franklins. When silver was $28.50 I paid $9 for a bunch of silver halves and $22 for a bunch of Morgan and Peace Dollars. I know that some people advocate buying ASEs but I never see them at any killer prices whereas I can buy 90% silver for less than I can sell it for with minimal effort on my part. Different styles work for different people.

I'm wondering if they have any 1999 in the rolls ... ???

it might be worth it if some are in the rolls ??

At about .50 over melt per coin just depends on if your buying now or not. I'm not.

I have to agree, it's definately junk! I personally rather have 90% coins pulled from circulation than a beat up proof. It's just plain ugly and worth nothing more than melt to me.
