Here's my one and only Gold Indian $2.50. I've been waiting to get another (a $5) but with the price of gold I guess I'll be waiting a little bit longer. :D I absolutely love this Gold Indian design! How about you, you got anything to add about the design? Anyone? Anything? :D

I too love this design and I also love the fact that the relief is sunken into the coin. Not a reverse relief but just sunken in past the surface of the coin. What a great idea! The first 3 decades of the 1900 IMHO produced the greatest coin designs in US history. This coin is just another classic example. One day I hope to own one too, fret, but I have yet to due to the price as well.

I bought my one and only $2.50 Indian, a 1926, way back in the late 1970's. I had done some work on the side and figured, the rent was paid and I really wanted a gold coin. Back then I bought almost all of my coins from Harold B. Weitz in Pittsburgh and he sent a nice one. PCGS later graded it MS62. I believe I paid $175 for it and the Numismedia price is now around $650.

I bought a MS62 1911 $5 Indian Half Eagle last year on a whim and while it seemed like a lot of money at the time it turned into a pretty good investment.

Obviously I love the design. :D

Absolutely a great design! I read on this forum that back in the day the public didn't like the design b/c they thought the sunken relief trapped dirt and germs. At first I thought it was ridiculous but then I read about it in the Coin Clinic of Coins magazine and that reason was one of the reasons the design went unappreciated especially in 1918 with the world influenza outbreak.

Sounds like you got a couple of great deals on yours Hiho!! WTG!! :D

It's one of my favorite coins. Looks as if you have a nice one.

Definitely a coin I would like to get later down the line but I really cant justify the cost when there is other coins I would rather have first.

It is my favorite design on u.s. coins though.

Yeah it actually has a little damage as it was once in jewelry so I may not be able to have it graded I don't know. It is one of my favorite pieces tho'! It's one of those coins where I can remember buying it and how happy I was to find it. :D

You need to, flatten the staples on the back of the card. They scratch the covers and mess with the coins. :)-O)
