I noticed on one of the APMEX product pages for a Sunshine Mint round, they mentioned that Sunshine provides balnks to the US Mint. Now they are listing a new 5 oz. Sunshine Round available 11/17 that's just over 2.5" (which is the new ATB minimum as posted by yakpoo). New to this whole collecting business, but would it make sense for a mint that provides blanks to make rounds out of those same sized units?
I am sooooo tired of waiting for these things to come out..... Wanted these as soon as I heard of them. I just called the US Mint last week and they still dont have a clue when they will be released..... The operater actually said, "They don't tell us those things". LOL! Rediculous..........
Current issue of Coin World for 10/18/2010 has an article on them with images of all three sides. Watch the coin blogs, the story will be out soon with details. "Production of the 2010 AtB 3" bullion coins begain 9/21/2010 at the Philadelphia Mint." "The US Mint has not disclosed when it plans to begin offering the 3-inch silver bullion coins or at what price."
Thanks! Just a little impatience on my part.... I don't like the whole "quarter dollar" label thats on them but hey, 5 ounces of silver is 5 ounces of silver!
I understood the 5 oz. coins were to be a denominational value of 0.25¢ however, the images in Coin World do not show us the obverse with denomination, only the reverse, and do not specifically mention if it's on the coin but the edge lettering will read ".999 fine silver and 5.0 ounce"
I'm real curious how they are going to package these as well... It would be nice to be able to buy the whole 5 coin set per year at a lower price..... prolly not going to happen though..... These will be beautiful coins! Love the scenery on the reverse of most of them..... Wish they would have come out with a new Lady Liberty design for the obverse..... I like the Walking Liberty design on the silver eagles but I think its time for something new and refreshing!
Most likely there will be short window around late November -December like they did with the 2006-W. but that just a guess.
It is not too late. My prediction is that these are going to burst onto the scene right between Thanksgiving and New Years (think 2009 ASE gold issued first week of December 2009). In addition to Apmex, MCM also has a page set up (coming soon): http://www.moderncoinmart.com/cart1/home.php?cat=210 Get your credit cards ready! TC
PCGS has their weekly survey asking if people are planning to buy the AtB 5oz. coins, vote at the link: Are you going to buy the 5-Ounce America the Beautiful Silver Quarters? Results are shown when you vote.
Interesting. The picture of the stacked pieces that Krispy posted (From the mint) claims that the edge lettering is applied by a segmented collar. But the coins in the picture show no evidence that a segmented collar was used.
Interesting Conder! I'm intrigued. How can you tell that? The absence of a seam between the lettering? It appears to me that the image in Coin World is more of a rendering than an actual image of the coins. Is the seam what you are looking for?
