I hope you didn't take that as an admonishment. I was just hoping to extend the venues of CoinTalk to you if you wanted your own thread. However, it does help to keep threads orderly if we can stay close to the thread topics. :smile
Admonished? Yes Offended? No Have I seen "off topic" on this board? Yes, many times.. does that mean I have the right to do so? No way. Sorry, again. How ABOUT that price of gold today?
So what do you guys think of an NGC MS-69 $10 Platinum Eagle for 228? Good deal or no? My next coin is gonna be an MS-70 1/4th oz Gold Eagle Proof, I gotta check mintages but I think 2005 is also a low year, maybe not the lowest. If this costs me $700, is it worth it? There are only 5000 $10 Platinum Eagles made in 2005, should I look to ebay for low mintage gold coins or is that too much of a risk? I want to collect a full 2005 set of Platinum eagles, maybe not in a box (cuz it costs like 3x as much) but I have to find a 2005 1oz Eagle first. My 1oz Eagle would be lucky to be rated MS-68, and I'm tempted to bite the $50 bullet and sell it back too them... they sold me a coin with more than 5 flaws without loupe and about 10 with, It still looks great, most people would think it's perfect but right above lady liberties right eye is a chink, and on the eagle side there are several scratches in the brushed patina.... All the polished parts are perfect but there appears under loupe to be a miniature cat scratch (4 claw) into the left shoulder right by the TDR letters. I want MS-69 or MS-70 coins if I'm buying modern stuff, and I have no idea what a '98 is worth vs a 97 or 99 or, dare i say it, a 2004 or 2005. I should've gone proof but I had a feeling I'd get lucky and didn't... or did I dunno. ANYBODY HERE KNOW 1oz Pt Eagles?
Also, what is a out of package 2.5g Pamp Suisse bar worth, with the assay card but not sealed inside? Is it worth melt? Same question with a 1/4th oz gold Scotia Moccotia Round, which i can seal back in its package but it was removed and has some scratches, a ding. I know I know I shouldn't have removed them but I like having a gold coin in my pocket and an 1885 Morgan in my left, I have to ride my bike 20-40 miles a day and I have no helmet, just motorcycle gloves from my crash (2009 YZF-R6 5400mi RIP).... the engine, frame, exhaust, and whole right side of the bike was perfect but the gearbox was shot and the oilpan was grinded down.... the shop quoted me 9500... which is what I PAYED with warranty! NEW! I told them to suck a body part and fix it for 6k like a real shop would and they said they were "doing me a favor" by quoting it so high because my insurance gave me 8500.... - a frickin 2k deductible. So I lost my bike and got 6500 from State Farm THE WORST MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE EVER. At least I got $200 for my helmet and $450 for my ruined leather jacket. My boots are still in perfect condition, after sliding 600ft down the century blvd offramp in the breakdown lane off the 405N... the bike slid 750ft. That's what you get for jumping off your bike at 95.... Speed wobble from the 405's carpool lane gap moved from back of the bike to the front and by the time I had balanced the handlebars were swinging back and forth @ 6hz.... went to 12hz and almost broke my wrists while I was trying to grab the clutch, every time the thing jerked left (at 6hz to start) my right glove stuck to the throttle and the bike went up 1/2 a mph.... 78 79 80 81 82 83 84 85 86 878889909192939495 and I gave up. If I had NOT taken the advice given in the DMV handbook "ride it out, don't accelerate or brake" and slammed the rear brake I'd still have an R6 today. Shows what the DMV knows about Vs. That bike was a monster named SAAS. 131hp 18500rpm hard redline 4 cylinder 370lb wet MONSTER. Hell my corolla had 121hp NEW, and I went from that, 8 years old, to the monster. I remember this guy in a Ferrari California, brand new, looks at me and revs up his amazing 4.8 liter V8 510hp engine and I laughed.... held it at 5k and he was gone... left him like he was standing still and he was a quarter mile behind and prob gave up as I hit 150 right before the tunnel under LAX (PCH). He rolled up, put the top up, rolled up his windows and didn't rev his pathetic engine again. His 250k Ferrari ate my exhaust... my 9500 bike took down goliath. Did the same thing with an XFR, a Bentley Continental Flying Spur, and Some jerk with an 8.4L V10 Viper (hahahaha)..... but my fav was the Carrera GT I womped, stoplight to stoplight, 4x because he kept saying "oh my ACR was on" "oh my ASC messed me up" "oh I didn't get the right RPM" "Oh I missed 3rd"..... supercars are a joke to superbikes, unless your on a 3000m runway or the autobahn. I miss that bike so... 10.48 @ 144.38 was my best time at the track. But really the bike was best to 80, I hit 80 in 3.2 seconds... 60 in 2.5. Unbeatable anywhere but the highway. OFF TOPIC but a good memory and story. BTW if you see anyone riding ANY motorcycle without a full face DOT-5 helmet and armored gloves, Leather jacket, and boots (I rarely wore chaps, denim worked ok and the jacket and boots protected me fine in my 95mph crash, along with my full face helmet) they are an idot. Those skull caps will leave you with no lower face... your jaw will be all over the road. AND T-SHIRTS.... I saw a fat guy riding a Busa (GSXR-1300, 200mph bike) with only a T shirt and all I could imagine is how maybe his fat would slowely grind down and protect his ribcage and entrails from total destruction. People who don't wear leathers and crash, alone even, end up either dead or missing large portions of skin and bone. I don't care if your harley is a "cruiser" all it takes is some dickhead sideswiping you @ 80 and your gone. I used to knock off peoples mirrors when they acted sufficiently stupid. You just put out your shoulder, get behind, downshift, floor it (if your @ high speed... low speed just blip throttle) and BAM no more mirror and see if your F250 or Excursion can catch me, especially in traffic! I lost several cops in rush hour after knocking off they're mirrors and it wasn't a race it was a smackdown. I was through half a mile of cars before they're sirens could pull 2 people out of the way. No need for tickets if you have traffic, cops won't even try if they see you have a new 750 or R6/R1. Sorry CHP, I have better things to do than sit in traffic w/ you. One guy went on the should till he hit a "you are travelling this fast" sighn.... I guess it's good i don't have that bike SAAS made me a terror on wheels, and she bit back.
TDR, your diatribe has made the very clear point to me that it is unkind and unnecessary to go off topic. My post more likely belonged at Cabela's, and I recognize that. Yours, well I'm not sure where it belongs, but obviously not here (but that was your point; a mockery of sorts..) I came here for information. I made a mistake. I have found much information I needed, and have found this site to be very helpful to me. If you ever see a post of mine anywhere on this whole site (after this one), I guarantee it will be about a coin, and posted in the proper forum. That WAS your goal, I think. Bravo. p.s. One never knows who they are talking to online, Mr. Motorcycle, a young man did exactly as you described in your diatribe. Odd thing though, when he hit my car, he flew over the roof and off the front end, slid another 60 ft. I watched him die. I was 24. He was 19. James Frances Smith. Never forgot his name.
Yeah it was way off topic, and sorry you had to see the kid die, he must've made some mistake (I did) and hit something. Was he wearing full leathers and a full face helmet? sliding 50ft is nothing compared to how far I slid, literally 500ft under the overpass and down Century exit.... amazing I had nothing permanent... just slight (2 months to heal) road rash on my left arm. Safety equipment is NECESSARY, and I always avoided cars.... unless they wouldn't avoid me. My bike was so fast they never had a chance to figure out my motive or catch me (top quarter on my bike stock was 9.98@159, faster than a veyron!). I was lucky tho. My guess would be most of them didn't even try to chase me, as by the time they realized they're mirror was hanging by wires I was hundreds of feet in front and gaining.... I had some problems with harley drivers, hells angels guys. Always kept a crowbar attatched to the left side of my bike (not left handed, but right is throttle so left is your battle arm, should someone road rage you).... usually I would just leave them in the dust, but twice I ran guys off the road when they were blantantly drunk at 11am on the 405.... I always flipped them off first and braked, so they wouldn't get hurt if they crashed (40mph skirmish) but one guy had a chain (not kidding) and tried throwing it at my steering column after I told him his bike was to compensate for shorter things and that he was too drunk to be driving on the highway (this was on the onramp stoplight).... luckily the chain just went under my bike and at that point I braked like I wanted to fight, then at 20 I spoked his ass (threw the straight end of the bar like a torpedo into his back spokes) and he rolled off to the breakdown lane, back tire screetching... compared to what he tried to do to me I was nice, if I had spoked his front tire he'd have gone head first over the bars and maybe died... I was nice about it IMHO. Same thing the other time, but instead of spoking (I was super ****ed about the chain) I just knocket his left handle bar so he was headed into the rim at 20, he braked too slowely and I waited for him to get back up and try to chase me before I left.... he was fine just pride hurt as a "Hells Angel".... why they're all 55 and still uppity to fight 23yo guys is beyond me. Anyway when you put a lot of milage in HA territory your bound to find people who wanna make fun of a 600cc bike because they've got 1300 or 1500 (funny they have 130hp too, if they bore it to 1700, but they're bikes weigh almost 700 and mine weighed 370 w/a full tank and revs to 18500rpm, 1st takes me to 65!) and they're in a gang, I was shot at by the guy I spoked... but again the drunkeness didn't help his aim. Lucky me.
Check out the site upgrade for the new Kitco online store, BIG IMPROVEMENT! CURRENTLY: In US markets for Monday, 9/27/10 GOLD: $1,296.60 -- High so far today $1,300.40 Silver: $21.41 -- High so far today $21.56 Platinum: $1633 Palladium: $557
I like it. Although I haven't seen their older site, I always like point and click ease of use shopping.....
The old kitco shop was just a single product grid page you scrolled up and down, filled in quantity values to the cart and went through check out procedures. This is a big move on other bullion dealers. I wondered if the recent demand for metals haven't driven them to upgrade the online store to compete for some of these new metals customers, the ones demanding a fresh web experience and something more user friendly compared to the old technical and bare bones site.
Kitco has a nice web site but my pockets aren't deep enough for KITCO's minimum order requirements of approx. $12K ( 10 AGE or 500 ASE)
They also posted a brief overview document about the new layout and how to use the store: Kitco User guide [PDF]
I just got jacked for 324. My 1/4th oz gold round was given, by me, to a guy who was giving me a ride home from class just to show him bullion (he didn't know what it was, and during the ride (nice gesture), and discussion I forgot about the coin.... to my dismay when i got home it was not in it's 2x2 and not anywhere else. Hopefully he gives it back, no way to PROVE he took it but he was nice enough to give me a ride, hopefully it wasn't a $325+ ride....
May I intrude on this thread which Krispy is trying hard to keep on the title subject, and serves a large number of CT posters, to remind certain people that keeping a thread on topic is a responsibility of ALL. There are other subforums, and a lot just should not be posted at all. Reading through the last couple of days posting, and finding few real Bullion investing posts was time consuming and seemed that some people drink way too much coffee. A posting should be thought out before rambling on about any subject that comes to mind. Thank all for taking this advice seriously. Continuation of bad habits will lead to discontinuation I have a poof wand and not afraid to use it. Jim
