That sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Yeah, $40 for a Morgan is a rip. If I were you, I'd check out www.coinflation.com, at that site, they have listings of the current melt price for US coins. A good coin shop will charge about melt, the one by me usually rounds up to the next 50 cent increment on each coin, but it shouldn't ever go much higher than that.

Hi there, I don't know of any off the top of my head (I'm up in central NJ). You could do a yellow pages search, any "coin store" will have silver. Ask for junk silver, most dealers have bags of it. My favorite shop is in Howell NJ, but that's a bit of a drive for you
