I recommend that you start at the bottom of this thread where I started. I had to break this up into multiple posts because of limitations.

I have made over $400,000 investing in pot stocks. Some are good and some are bad. I recommend that she does some research on various companies within the POT sector. I am currently invested in MJNA, HEMP, MMNFF and AAL (American Airlines) currently at $17.01 and expected to go to $35...IMHO

IRAs are slow in gains, but you get gains. I'm not a financial advisor, but I invest in quick returns that are very risky. The faster the return, the riskier it is. I just throwing this out there and see where it lands for you. I recommend that she invest in Marijuana Pot stocks. They are about to explode again as they did in the early 2010's.

However, since Trump took office, the economy (stock market) has gone from 13,000 to 30,000. So the odds of it continuing to increase is pretty good....IMHO. I recommend that she invest that $10K (depending on how old she is) in an IRA. Boy, I can't believe I just said that. It really depends on several need factors. How much does, she want to have for retirement, and how fast does she need it?

Boy, those answers about your mother investing in gold were sure helpful...NOT! IMHO, gold is a tricky commodity to invest in. It's a nice hedge to invest in when the economy is good, and if the economy tanks, then she would be sitting pretty.
