    Welcome to CoinTalk ! I think in 1968 they still punched the mint mark by hand. This would allow for different amounts of alloy to hit the coin....

    I have to say for a 1953 that this is an extraordinary strike. I think the 50's were generally softer rounder design. I looked at a bunch of MS67...
