I have heard early specimens of this coin have sold for $1000+. Is that true and why?
Are they scarce mintage wise? The price I heard was from a Panda America flyer.

Which one's? Gold? Silver? Got a link to that flyer?

For one general bit of info, while most early years mintages appear quite low, they didn't keep very good records of early Panda mintages.

It was in a flyer for silver Pandas I picked up from Boston and yes krispy it was the silver ones. Crazy amounts for modern silver! But good job to whoever bought them cheap!
