I have started a small set of the Kook's and have from 2001 to 2010 1 ounce coins. I've been searching to try and find them for under $25 each and have had very little luck. Net result of this is I've now decided to move my max up to $30 each. Yakpoo did list a link to one of his local dealers...

...and I can pick up a few from them to get my set more complete. I want to get all dates in the 1oz size, but have a problem spending more than $30 per coin.

I really like the look of the coins I have and going to buy what I can under $30. Does anybody else have a dealer that they would know and recommend so I can fill in with some of the other missing dates?

Have you checked Gainesvillecoins.com? They have very quick and safe shipping, competitive prices and are very customer service oriented. Stock varies so you have to watch their listings or call them with a wish list. They have cold called me in the past with new offers and products since I've bought from them at least once in the past.

Not a lot of stock but Moderncoinmart.com occasionally has some Australian piece.

Panda America are pricey but also sell Kooks.

Even at the coin shows that I have gone to, I see some 1-oz Kooks sell for $30 (or more) but I have also seen some Kooks sell for under $25 at various coin shows that I have gone to in the past. I do not have a particular dealer to recommend for you but if there is a fairly large coin show in your area in the near future, then you should look there to see if there are any Kooks available in your price range.

Thanks for the links. Something I've noticed lately with Apmex is they are really competitive with their gold and seem to be if you buy a volume of silver, but the rest of their silver is not as competitive as it once was. I'm not complaining or trying to pan them in any way as I've purchased plenty from them and never had any issues. Just seems like they are moving more and more towards gold and bigger volume. I might be wrong or misreading them, but that is what it seems like, to me. I didn't mention plat or pallad as I don't buy them....yet...

Gainsville coins i would highly reccomend. If you see a item sold out or out of stock -- call them, they remove items when they have 2 or 3 left, so they might have it in stock. They are highly reputable, and have the upmost respect and concern for their customers, and they do have fast service, shipping, and good prices. I havent bought from apmex yet.

Thanks for the input, but I live in the middle of nowhere. I'm 100 miles from a city of 100k people and 300 miles from Salt Lake City, 450 from Denver and Phoenix, so going to a show is not in the cards. I'd really like to go to a couple, but from April until Nov, leaving my store is out of the question. So the when and how far kind of limit me, plus I really don't have cash to spend on silver from Nov to April. (I'm not trying to be cute or smart, and appreciate the suggestion)

I feel and have stated earlier in the year that with many investors who moved to gold in 2009 and have secured their positions in that metal, demand in general is down for gold. demand is focused more on silver this year as those who are already positioned in gold may be working on silver position now, the number of little guy investors, buying silver, "the poor man's gold" is increasing and demand along with potential for profit in silver is increasing. I feel that silver is more in demand than gold this year, overall. You even see more advertising for silver investment than gold in the media and online, despite it's volatility. I think you will find that what Apmex are doing with their silver product pricing is much in reflection of where demand is focused as well. Plus they are trying to deliver their level of service and quality while remaining competitive in a very difficult industry to be profitable, especially in a time like this with a lot of competition.

I wasn't trying to pan on them or even sound negative about them. I don't see them as a bad place to do business at all. As a business owner, I understand all to well the difficulty in profitability, and truth be told the margins on PMs sucks, so I don't blame them or anybody for trying to maintain profitability, regardless of how they do it. You're spot on as far as demand for gold goes, spot is high and demand seems a bit stale or stagnant from what I've read. I'm not sure if it will continue to stay where it is for long. (just posting out loud)

BTW...thanks for the link to Modern Coin Mart, the pricing on the original packaging products seems to be very competitive from a quick glance.

I understand. No problem. Fair enough. :smile

$30 for a Kook might be the norm if you buy one at an online dealer. Apmex might be the exception to the rule but even when you buy one from an online dealer such as APMEX, the shipping charges might possibly put the price of that silver Kook over $30.00.

I really don't want to pay that, but I think I'm resigned to doing it. I do, however, refuse to pay more than that for now. Sometimes the things we do to try and fill a set....yikes...now I'm going to watch an episode of Band of Brothers...will check back later...and thank you to all for the input.

I understand and didn't read into any posts that anyone was trying to pan any dealer.

Yes, MCM are also a good dealer, primarily US Mint products like the name suggests, but especially in offering good quality US Mint OGP. I have bought some proof silver eagles in the past to fill a couple holes and recommend them.

They ship very, very quickly. USPS Priority Mail. The products are in very good condition. I don't feel like they buy beat up boxed items from their sources as you might find mishandled boxes and COA from eBay sellers now and then. I also didn't see anything to suggest that the coins I got were inferior (less than potential 69/70 grades). The prices are not necessarily cheap, but they are market accurate.
