I buy 100 oz bars. If your looking to place a 20 to 30 thousand dollar order as you mentioned, I have seen 1000 oz bars that you can fit into the trunk of a car.

What gives with the 1 oz increments?

i just started poking around and see that ase's are one of the favorate vehicles for silver. i always see that it commands the higher $ over spot, i have looked at 10 ounce and 100 ounce bars but they seemed to be very close in price to what i can get the ase's for so i figured that i'll just go that route.

    9guns,

Is the ASE purchases part of your SHTF prepping? If so then, it might make some sense to buy some ASE's but there are other forms of silver that you can get for a lower premium than on ASE's. Strikeluster mentioned 100oz bars. There are also 10-oz size bars and Junk silver. I think that junk silver has the lowest premium over spot than any other type of silver. These are just some ideas of other types of silver that you can buy to get more bang for your buck. Even though the price of $19.93 is a good price for ASE's you might do even better with a lower premium on junk silver if you are buying for SHTF prepping or for an investment purposes.

EDIT: I just saw where you posted about the premium of 100oz and 10oz bars being about the same for what you can get ASE's for.

When I decided to start hoarding silver my first thought was storage and making sure I got in to the market deep enough to make money. So I went all the way. Thats why I get the 100 oz ers. They stack nice. If for some reason I want to sell some I can just reach in and grab it. They tarnish real bad though. Look almost black.

im buying purely to hedge against the dollar. im a newbie so i really dont know how to calculate all the junk numbers because of it being 90%. i can get silver bullion rounds for 19.39-$19.68 and ounce so the cost savings over what i can get the ASE's for is not enough for me to make a move on. im looking at 100 ounce bars and the best i can do is $18.29 an ounce but what about fakes buying from other sources than the big guys.

Thats the best reason to buy silver there is. Get ready the economy is not getting any better anytime soon and in washington they have to print all the money to pay for all of these magic mass spending programs they keep coming up with. I have been gettting my bars from my long time coin dealer friend. I will open my safe and tell you who made them. They are 401k compatable & recognized.

That is a good point about 100oz silver bars. I am not sure about this but I think that when you sell a 100oz silver bar, the dealer get it assayed and that will cost money. I think that is the drawback to buying 100oz bars that I can think of. The dealer might also discount a 100oz silver bar more than say 1-oz silver rounds but I could be wrong on that. It just depends on the dealer that you sell it to. 10-oz size bars is IMO is good size to get if you are buying silver bars for stacking and hedging against inflation. If you can continue to get ASE's for the price that you mentioned, then I would go ahead and buy ASE's since at that price, you are getting a very good deal IMO.

I agree with that. The gov't is not going to suddenly have a change of heart and stop printing $'s and stop spending on its gov't programs. It can't. Its out-of-control deficit spending and the rapidly increasing national debt will eventually cause the complete collapse of the dollar and that would be bad for everybody. Fiat currencies do collapse since in definition they are not backed by anything tangible. The U.S. $ seems to be the longest running fiat currency at the moment but the U.S. $ cannot last forever and the U.S. $, like any other fiat currency, will eventually completely collapse. It is just a matter of time.

Follow the advice of David Morgan...one of the leading silver experts
in the world. He says it is vitally important to dollar cost average into silver.
Trying to time the dips is difficult and can really stress a guy out. Have a plan and be consistent.

    Steve,

The link goes to the homepage of a business I own. I am new on here...and after reading the rules it appears this type of link is permissable in a signature line. It was also on my initial message on the 'Intoductions' board. I look forward to learning from and also contributing to the forums here.

Yeah I also try to keep it from my mind too but it can be hard especially with the European crisis starting with Greece and spreading to possibly other European countries. Gold and silver seem to be the only things to have and more and more people are waking up to that fact. Even though I am just a silver art bar collector, I keep up with what is happening with gold and silver prices and also keep up with the sad shape that the U.S. gov't is in financially. When the gov't destroys the currency, it destroys its citizens' way of life in my opinion.

    Strikeluster,
Just curious...how do you store and do you take any precautions to prevent tarnishing; desicants, etc?

I have a very high quality safe and alarm system connected to the local P.D. and my wife is in law enforcement and works most days from home and is a crack shot with her 9mm, also add 1 german shepard named lance that enjoys biting other people besides us. The only thing I couldnt fight was tarnish. And Im not worried about that.

    Yes 1970 Silver Art,
Our currency is in the crapper. Check this out. I have a dealer friend whos well connected with the mint and has friends on the inside. He told me that up until about two years ago overtime at the mints currency printing operations that overtime for mint employee's was not allowed because of what they made per hour. The last two years they have been getting all the overtime they want. Because they are printing 24/7. That scared me.
