Nice pics Ken, but ugly coins I guess I can say I kinda like the Yellowstone one, because it has the buffalo, but is this how they are all going to be? The are pretty bland. WHERE DID LIBERTY GO?
I've read where the Mint sez no one can tell the difference between a sand blasted proof and a lazer proof...I can. The lazer proofs are grainy and cheap (imho). I'll still buy some, but I'll pick them up in the silver proof sets slated to go on sale in the Aug/Sept timeframe.
they sent an order sheet for these with my girls income tax check. she was going to surprise me, but asked me last minute. i would have been happy with the surprise, but i told her to hold off till after the coin show this weekend. its the thought that counts, her even wanting to order them for me without asking is good enough.. plus i am not sure, i want to start collecting these. only reason i got the state quarters was because my grandfather put me on the mint list for them. i really like the older designs of coins better.
I Can too! Holy MOY-ly! I thought that was some sort of proof error Ken posted on the obverse at first glance! That's ridiculously poor quality. No sir I ain't gonna drink from the Mint's kool-aid pitcher!
I think what you might be thinking about here is the first set of silver proofs that took off and then eventually slid back down a bit in value after a few years. I don't believe that is going to happen again and if it does, sell your sets as quickly as possible because they will again slide back down. I bought 5 sets of the clad quarters but they were much cheaper and will probably increase in value about as much as the silver coins at least relative to the value of silver. If you want them, buy them but I would expect a big return on your purchase. Here is one example of an ebay Buy it now sale of a 1999 silver proof sets that include the non-silver coins. http://cgi.ebay.com/1999-US-Mint-Si...em&pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2a07b01a99
Great pics. But I wish we can do something besides landscapes. But hey, the hockey pucks of these things will be out soon!!!!
Hey Ken: Thanks for posting those pics. Are those 2 birds supposed to be there on the reverse of the Yosemite? I checked the Mint website and the pic there does not show them, take a look: http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/atb/?local=Yosemite I really hope for your sake that you found the first "two birds" error. TC
So guys, Just got my 3 sets.. Nice coins for the collector.. My only issue is the Obverse. Washington looks weak.. weak strike.. on all. Anyone else get these.. or is the the new Dies? The Reverse on one of these set may grade 70 but with Washington Magnificent Doo looking so flat... well.. Anyone notice this?
No TC, they are not birds. Like Krispy stated, it's dust. Amazing what the photo picks up that the "eye" totally misses. :smile As far as the laser effect for the obverse goes, I rather like it. Chris and Yak have opined to the contrary but I think it adds character to the piece. I like the contrast it adds to the coin.
I can't quite make out if they are Seagulls or Canadian Geese. I would think there would be more of them if they were Canadian Geese, but on the other hand, what are Seagulls doing at Yosemite?! ...a true numismatic mystery!
If I follow my inclinations and just keep mine and look at them, am I passing up easy money that I could have gotten with the grade-and-flip game? Given that, for some reason, people pay extra for the "early release" tag?
****Not to change Subject**** Why is the US Mint not letting company use" America the Beautiful Quarter's" on promotions?? I can see why they had a Chattanooga T.N. coin seller not list the new "America the Beautiful Quarter's in there ad's in Coin World & other publications. Ngc change has too change there label to not read "America the Beautiful Quarter's" to.will Pcgs also not list the series name too??? I the Mint Director/Dictator Moy is try to make this coin series fail??????:vanish:
