I noticed the US Mint website announced that the Mint is diligently seeking blanks to resume production of uncirculated and proof ASE and AGE's in 2010. This is the first time that I've seen the Mint directly comment on the future of the uncirculated and proof Eagles. I hope this means they will be returning in the near future.
The U.S. Mint is beginning a subscription program for ASEs for $31.95 per coin. http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ctId=10365&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10201
It's in with the subscriptions.......kind o' gave me some hope and I started a thread about it, but everyone who responded said that it was old news. Beats the tar out of me as it was "news" to me. :goofer:
No, it's on the catalog page for American Eagles. The second paragraph about the Mint working diligently to find blanks is new. The subscription has always been available. As fast as the market is buying up the bullion coins, I would not hold my breath waiting form them to mint the proofs. They might be working diligently in trying to get more blanks to make them, but as long as the demand for the bullion coins maintains it current pace, I just don't see it happening. It might, but I highly doubt it. {now that I've posted this, I think there just might be some hope}
The problem I've always had with "announcements" on the Mint's website is that they never date them. I think this is done intentionally to mislead potential customers. How much credence would you give to that announcement about trying to buy bullion stock if it was dated a year and a half ago? Chris
Even if demand is out of control for silver, I still do not understand why they just didn't mint 50,000 proof ASEs last year. They make a higher premium on them, so it would only make sense to produce at least a few of them!
I'm just lovin' that little lady in the avatar Quartertapper. And I totally agree with what you have written. Collectors are 'public" too......
I just dont see it happening this year and with a 2 year gap in the series, I wouldn't be surprised if they scrapped the entire series and came out with a new bullion design in 2011. The economy is still a good 2 years away from any glimmer of recovery, especially with the oil spill in the Gulf. How many thousands of coastal residents will be unemployed and businesses will fail because of this disaster. It's difficult to comprehend.
