I used to get 2-3 $500 boxes of halves every other week for about 3 years. The first year I accumulated 7 rolls of 40% Kennedy's and 1-1/2 rolls of 90% (all 1964). After that, it was one here or one there. Then I learned from the head cashier that BoA recycles all of their coins through their regional storage facility. When I asked if she could order boxes direct from the FRB, she told me that was the responsibility of the storage facility and they would not order anything when they had it in supply. That is when I quit searching rolls. Chris
I hit the jackpot. I got a $1000 bag of loose and a $500 box. The box had nothing but the bag was almost all 40%-ers. I got $836 face in 40%. I can't decide if I want to hold or sell. Some of them are practically uncirculated. If I decide to sell I am going to try and find a place that will pay a fair price for the uncirculated ones. I plan to sort them this weekend by date and condition (basically ones that someone might want for a collection and those that could be melted).
I know everyone on here loves pictures but I'm not sure how to take one of 1672 half dollars. If I take one of the bucket they are in will that suffice? I plan to sell some of them off. I already called APMEX for a quote. Would a sell confirmation and a copy of the check satisfy everyone?
I believe it and congrats at that! Post your quotes and receipts if you like but be sure to block out any of your private info or account numbers to protect yourself online. :thumb:
Of all people, you are not one to call "BS" with the posts that you have made with your claims. That is laughable.
What do you think a fair price would be? I checked Ebay last night and prices are all over the map. Most are small batches. I don't know if anyone wants $836 worth! I will keep some for myself but I will sell off atleast $500 worth. I'd like to get atleast spot. I know that junk silver normally trades slightly above spot. I would have rather found the same amount of silver in 90% coins because I think they would have been easier to liquidate.
Coinflation is a decent way to help you quickly total the value of your silver content in the coins you are looking to sell. eBay sales are all over the board but tend to bid right up to spot with a few final bids after that before the auction ends over spot and especially so if silver drops right after their last bids went over. If you sell to rebuy other silver coins and want something easy to liquidate then consensus generally says that you should buy and hold American Silver Eagles (ASEs) for this.
A couple of years ago, someone here found a huge stash of silver halves as well. His moniker was Major something or other. He had tons of pictures. If I remember right, he sold it all on ebay and then just spent all the proceeds on coins and currency. Disappeared from the board shortly after that.
I've sold a couple of small lots of 40% halves on ebay, auction style. One one I got slightly above spot, on the other 3, below spot. Congrats on your amazing find.
Wow! You must have had so much fun as you found more and more. I was hoping that you would not find many.....so that I dont start a new hobby....now I might have to try it. Thanks for the report, nice to get feedback on peoples efforts. I also love coinflation website.
Just put them all on a table & take a pic, it will show. (http://www.cointalk.com/showpost.php?p=828271&postcount=4663) I personally believe you, no reason why you can't win big. Good find!!! :high5:
Well then nice find. In the future I would recomend not telling so many people, the more you inspire the more who search, meaning the less silver you will find. Good luck searching
