Krispy, exactly whose post was I showing disdain for? Fret was the one who said he was learning about gold and asking for opinions about what he should do with the 1853 $2.50 gold piece. I responded to him honestly. I would expect the same from others. I offered my opinion on the grade [I don't think anyone else did], but I wanted him to know my skill level.

Disdain was not directed at any one particular post, never implied any one was singled out. You said, "Nobody here is qualified to tell you where the price of gold is going." However, no one has been exclaiming they outright and with complete certainty know, apart from expressing this through their own personal opinion on the matter. Fret was soliciting opinions and really received nothing much here, perhaps, as I rightly pointed out in terms of his grade question, because he'd posted that inquiry in the wrong forum. Cloud, you cautioned that Fret's asking these questions here, in a place where mutually interested parties who regularly follow and keep abreast of the topic of PMs compared to the majority of the population, like someone as common as a "barber" per your example, are the wrong crowd to solicit those opinions from. Just because everyone doesn't work in the field of precious metals, trading, economics or some similar related profession doesn't render their opinions null and void any more than does working in a related field make you any more of a trustworthy authority.

Instead, your post generally cast an air of unworthiness (disdain) to the views that may be expressed by others on the topic, for which you offered no opinions of your own on the topic per Fret's queries about where gold was going.

While Fret's post about his coin overlapped some numismatic topics with bullion oriented concerns, you decidedly hazarded a guess at an equally subjective topic, the grade of his coin, and not what he might consider doing with his coin in regards to what the gold market is doing.

Krispy, we'll have to agree to disagree. If someone comes here and tells me they are new to the gold market and asks where the price is going, they have a right to know that there are no people here qualified to tell them. If the "regulars" want to play a guessing game between themselves, and realize it is a game, that's another story. I like to guess too, but I'm not going to mislead someone new to gold bullion about my ability to forecast future gold prices.

Nor should you mislead anyone new or familiar with bullion. I never suspected you would, but you might at least offer them your guess or perspective along with the disclaimer you've pointed out if you're going to go to the trouble of replying to the inquiry. As it was left, you'd addressed (inserted) the fact that no one knows what the price of gold will do and at best those who opine are only guessing. You say you like to guess, you seem to be a regular, but you didn't address Fret's other questions apart from grade by offering up your own guess. But we have to 'agree to disagree' so we may never get to read your guess.

I believe I have indicated in the past [somewhere around here] that Rob McEwen has been stating for years that he believes the price of gold will be $2,000 by the end of 2010, and $5,000 by the end of the gold bull market. He knows more about the industry than I ever will, so I always defer to his guess. I've made a lot of money investing in his companies. Regarding my own analysis, I am satisfied that for now, the path of least resistance for both gold and silver seems to be up.

There you have it, but I think it would be a mistake for anyone to invest money based on the above.

Interesting that PM's has not fallen with the DOW rallying...I'm not sure if Europe's $1 trillion bailout was going to hurt or help PM's, it seems right now nothing....
