Hello everyone! I have seen examples about the difference between Machine Doubling and Double die but this seems to have three layers, sometimes one shadow and two layers and sometimes just one shadow. Plus the flaw in the ring that shows a little more evidence but I'm in doubt what it is. I need expert help, thanks.
Thanks for answering! Yes, I see the flat shelf in several parts, the only thing that makes me doubt is that I see in some parts two flat shelves one on top of the other and the last layer (as in the U), when there are three flat layers is still Machine Doubling? Thanks for your help
No problem for some they have a hard time understand what they are seeing. Your eyes do play tricks on you at times. Try and up load your images as full not thumb nails. When asking a member for an opinion its much easier to look at the images in full. If you're interested in learning more about errors and varieties I suggest to join Coneca . Its $25 @ year and it helps you to connect to experts and well know collectors. Well worth the yearly dues. However here are a list of web sites to use as a reference and book mark for future useage. http://varietyvista.com/ https://www.indianvarieties.com/ http://doubleddie.com/228401.html http://www.franklinlover.yolasite.com/
Thank you very much for sharing your opinion, today I learned that I have to look for notching/split (new term for me) when in doubt between double machine and double die. Now I am sure it is machine double, Cheers!
Coneca sounds very good, I think I will join because I really like all this and I need to learn more. Also learn how to upload better photos (full size) but I can't find where is the option to do it. I will investigate, Also thanks for the reference links I will study them. Best regards!
Ok to post in full go to upload a file select that the the photo you wish to upload. Next you will see a small photo and two buttons thumbnail the other Full Image The image shows a doubled die coin from Brazil
What a wonderful Real of Brasil DD coin! Thanks for sharing the instructions for uploading the photos, hopefully in the future I will have another interesting coin to take a photo of and I will upload it full size.
@angelis This buffalo nickel is also a doubled die! It shows no signs of split serifs, To the eye it is an every ray buffalo nickel....but guess what it is a listed ddr. There are two areas that the experts claim that its a DD. To my eye its a clash both areas. The ddr can be seen under stand its chin as well the knee on the left rear leg. https://doubleddie.com/1124350.html wwdr 003
I see it, this specific case is confusing, it is really a very good example! If those two areas didn't exist it really wouldn't be considered a DD. This becomes detective work! thanks for such an interesting example.
Now please understand that I dont scribe to all doubled die's as being a doubled die. There are some that are considered to be but are so insignificant that they are not worthy of a mentioning. I have sent in coins where they were attributed to be....and then delisted from the list of DD. However its all good as its a learning experience and thats how we learn more so by our mistakes. Like the 4 year old who touches the oven door....once burned twice shy... Yet they remember the next time do not touch.
