The 2009W gold buffalo is without a doubt going to be the KEY to the series!!The people who say the 2008 w is, KNOW it,they are just upset for buy the 08 at such a high price and trying to steer people into believing"OH ITS THE KEY,ITS THE KEY!", uhh..NO!2008's are OVERHYPED!!!!
.............Mama always said "if you don't have anything nice to say keep your yap shut"....soooo I ain't sayin' nuttin'...........
is there any such thing as a key date bullion coin? Then again, is there any such thing as a key date anything with more than 2 million made?
??huhhh I want what you guys are smokin. Mikey the 200,000 # is for the common dates, not the W's. 2009 Proof buffs are a joke. As Elaine pointed out before- buy it for 1410 from the mint, and get it in your hands an its worth 1330 at the most! 2009 has double the mintage of 08. Was this threat a joke or being serious? Both options are pathetic IMVHO:whistle:
Maybe I am missing something, but I think you might have these coins mixed up. There are 3 kinds of Buffalo coins: Bullion coin sold through dealers W - Uncirculated sold by the mint (only sold in 2008) W - Proof sold by the mint. The 2008-W that is in high demand and high priced is the Uncirculated coin not the Proof coin. It's the only year they have made it and only about 9,000 were sold. Prices shot up when it became apparent last year the mint was not going to release a 2009 version. In comparison there were about 20,000 2008-W Proof coins. The 2009 - W that you can get now is the Proof coin and I believe the mintages are already close to 50,000 and you can still get it from the mint. I don't believe there is any chance this coin will be a key date.
2008w AGB one ounce proof - 11,060 (single piece with box & coa.) - $5,000.00 2008w AGB one ounce unc - 3,025 (single piece with box & coa) - $4,000.00 2008 bullion AGB one ounce unc - 172,000 (total) - $1,220.00 2009 bullion AGB one ounce unc - 200,000 (total) - $1,190.00 2009w AGB one ounce proof - 48,994 (not final) - $1,410.00 (from the mint).
if you don't want to sell it to ebay at a higher prices that i mentioned. then some of the dealers were buying from you at these prices: (must have complete original box and c.o.a.). 2008w AGB one ounce proof - $3,600.00 2008w AGB one ounce unc - $2,900.00 2006 to 2007 AGB one ounce proof - $1,240.00 2006 to 2008 bullion one ounce unc - $1,180.00
The 2009W $50 American Buffalo Proof is NOT A JOKE!!! If your gonna criticize then do the $50 2008 w's they didnt sell as much so they broke em down into the $25,$10, and $5 to try and make money, which obviously YOU bought one, AND..even if the 2008W's became "key",then the 2009W $50 gold buff Proof is DEFINATELY next in line!!!!All the rest of the o6's and 07's are just tag alongs.
People are too serious. Lol! Im just tryin to get a rise out of you, the 2008w's are up there, but I still believe the2009w's have great secondary potential at the least. We'll just see where it all takes us, everything is a risk, ya never know what the future holds.
The coins were minted at West Point: US Mint Press Release for Celbration Series Gold Buffalo [2/1/2008] US Mint web site product listing Gold American Buffalo-2008 Celebration Coin Also in the Celebration Series from later in 2008 was the 8-8-08 Double Prosperity Set U.S. Mint Announces Gold 8-8-08 Double Prosperity Coin Set [7/22/2008]
I don't know, Sproof may be right. Though I think the 2006 circulated penny has the potential to be much bigger. I'm talking possibly worth millions per coin. That's just how big that thing could get, it's shocking!
Notice "Condition: Bullion", meaning that this is the version without a mintmark. The mintmarked kind would be listed as "Uncirculated" or "Proof". All the Buffaloes are made at West Point, but only the collector versions carry the "W" mintmark....
Correct! None of the US Mint links, press releases, nor images of the coin, nor coin news/blogs in my previous post above indicated a 'W' mintmark for this coin. This one is the bullion version and was made at West Point. :high5:
So I guess even though it was a 2008 uncirculated and made at West Point it does not have the W mint mark and therefore isn't worth the $5,000 I saw above? I'll have to check my safety deposit box to see if mine has the W or not. I do know that it came in a red box and that the coin was in some sort of shrink wrap. It was not just bare with no covering like ASE's come in tubes. I also remember that the mint called me a few weeks after I bought the coin and asked me a few questions about it. The questions were based on my satisfaction with my purchase and specifically asked if I liked the coin and thought it was of good quality and value. When I asked why I was called about this purchase the representative said that the demand was very low for the coin and that they hadn't sold many units.
