I have a few platinum pieces but havent went that way for a long time, have been focusing on GOLD from proceeds on BTC, kind of a dirty word on CT..LOL but have been pretty successful in the department averaging 1.5 OZ of GOLD each month
Thats because buying PF Platinum years ago was a bad idea. The price was much higher and the proof part costs an extra premium. I agree with you that it was a bad buy and basically a lump of coal. As for my American Platinum Eagles those are a whole different story since I got them at a great price without paying a “proof premium” which makes them a great buy. It’s important to remember not to confuse the overpriced platinum you bought with the platinum I bought at a fantastic price.
General rule of thumb is to have enough cash set aside to cover 3-6 months of expenses. Dunno about your budget, but I'd spend out of my buffer before I'd carry a balance on any CC. I'd even sell gold first. Visa/MC/Disc will be just fine without me paying double-digit rates to borrow money from them.
The 3-6 month rule is dependent on one’s job. Some jobs are much easier to find work than others and so people in some professions are advised to save more than people in other professions on the assumption that if they lost their job it would take some time to find new work. Now having said that there are also people who don’t need anymore than 1 month of emergency fund savings. For example myself. I don’t need a large emergency savings because my military pension is guaranteed for life which makes a large emergency fund unnecessary. For someone like myself putting aside $2,000 is enough of an emergency fund because my income cannot be taken away or lowered. It’s important to remember financial advise is different for everyone based on individual circumstances.
On major purchases like the A/C unit mentioned above basically an unexpected expense, having a low interest credit card, mine which is 8.75 % which is realistic for a couple of months based on the amount of the purchase.
Until the strip mining has to be done to find the necessary metals. The environmentalists will go insane.
Carls Jr today, $33.95 for two Western Bacon Cheeseburger med/ combo and a double stack cheese burger, thats just insanity !!
Which Carls Jr. are you eating at?? Carls Jr in Beverley Hills?? O_O My local Carls Jr is way cheaper than that. I believe here a WB Combo is $10. But the smart way to do it is to buy the 2x WB Jr burgers for $5 and then get a drink at the nearest gas station. The fountain drinks at Carls Jr aren’t any different than the AM PM fountain drinks for $1
Henderson Nevada, I have seen prices steadily increase, I am only a stones throw from Las Vegas there its even more, part of the vacation experience I guess its always more...LOL
Discover is great! I have a Discover It Miles card and the 3% cashback the first year was so great because I bought a lot of coins lol. They also tend to give higher limits than Capital One and especially higher than AMEX in my experience. My highest limit card is the Discover It Miles.
Gam3rBlake Because my military pension is guaranteed for life which makes a large emergency fund unnecessary. Nothing is guaranteed in life but taxes and death. I hope it never ends but anything is possible now days emergency or not..
I too mostly use the discover card for most purchases and pay it off monthly. Since I started, it's paid me a couple grand in cash back.
Well let’s just say if it gets to the point where the United States government cannot pay it’s military retirees I think I would have much bigger problems than not getting paid. Because if they weren’t paying us retirees then they would not be paying for many other government pensions either so it would be chaos. By the time it got to that point though I would have already liquidated other assets to accumulate whatever I need until the crisis ends. That’s what gold & silver stacking was meant for!
Yeah as long as you pay it off in full every month and don’t get charged interest then paying by credit card is better than cash. You don’t get any rewards back when you use cash. Although for bullion specifically most places do offer a cash discount because credit cards charge transaction fees. Even though Visa & Mastercard specifically prohibits merchants that use their network from charging credit card users more than cash paying customers.
It's semantics the way retailers circumvent that rule. It used to be, before the class action lawsuits, retailers would charge a surcharge for credit cards. After the class actions they now say they'll offer a discount for cash. No longer an upcharge for credit cards. Winds up being the same BS.
My LCS only charges a small amount to use my AMEX so the points earned cancels that out on the other hand I have an even more local coin store that only accepts cash a little larger selection but cash only ! use to buy there all the time until he did me dirty on a transaction, so he's no longer on my radar.
It's a state-by-state mess, but as I understand it the card processors CANNOT impose that rule any more for credit cards, in the wake of a class-action settlement in the last decade. https://www.cardfellow.com/blog/checkout-fees-charging-credit-card-fees-to-customers/ They still try to do it for debit and prepaid cards, but like I said, state-by-state mess. And most merchants have apparently decided they'll lose less money by eating the fees than by ticking off customers with a point-of-sale surcharge.
