Ampex, you've got to be kidding me!

Ampex is off the hook with the shipping and handling fee's. I have made several purchases from them in the past.....I also canceled a $3000.00 order as I was paying by credit card and got a nasty note saying I would not be allowed to make another CC purchase from them for 45 days! Ha I said put your bullion where the sun don't shine! And have never looked back to buy from them any more. I buy and sell bullion and coins daily.....when I want to make a purchase I want it now! Their fee's are unfair to off set their prices being a bit below par on some items...IE about 2 weeks ago they were selling 1/10 oz aussy zodiac coins at spot...1/10 oz 22kt coins sell all day long at $140 something...the fee's were so high that the price of the 1/10 oz coins was over spot + premium . ....thus no deal at all just a come on...to lure you into a bad deal. Local dealers or contacts from shows are your best leads to a good buy.

i never order from apmex and golden eagle. because their shipping is quite high. unless apmex accept credit card and shipping cost drop to $5.00. i will keep ordering from coast to coast $5, julian jarvis $4.95, coin depot $5, paul sims $5, and skyline $7.

This raises some serious questions about the quality of the coins from Paul Sims and coin Depot. I haven't ordered from them myself, so I wouldn't know. But it sounds like buyer beware to me.

Apmex is great if you buy large quantity, I bought many times from them which I sell online.

We have free shipping on anything over $100.00

I stopped buying from APMEX because of their shipping costs. Also the fact that they'll hold on to your items for 2 weeks (?) if you pay by check even if the check clears on day 1.

Since I wire the funds, it takes them 2 days to ship, the only thing is that they use UPS Ground which takes about 5 days to arrive to NJ. If you paying by check it would take much longer, I am not trying to hype them and I am sure they could do better.

I recently purchased a beautiful ms 70 Buffalo, sent them a cashiers check and without warning me put 10 day hold. Had I known I would have purchase else where. Remember ask! PS They are real beauties! I figure they can make their bucks either by raising the cost of their product of by cost of shipping. Either way they got ya!

Again, I am not defending Apmex but it's on their website(FAQ), they say no matter what they hold any kind of checks 10 days. We also hold any kind of checks 5-10 business days no matter what, these days when you have a great technology you could basically counterfeit anything, I talked to my bank and was advised that any check should be held at least 5 days, for large orders bank wire is the best.

I agree with You. I believe that they post their purchase rule in a more obvious place. I was told by my last seller He has been burned on a cashiers check and that hurts. I now don't expect shipment of ten days or more no matter how meager the sale. You can call for updates. When dealing with precious commodities, its really a serious mater to both the seller who bank His or Her reputation and livelyhood where with You its only one inconvenience. Eric Esq

The slated coin was purchase from Gainsville Coin and had to wait 10 days after the received my cashiers check. This upset me as I never noticed a caveat. Even the mint isn't as stringent!!!

I guess everyone will have different experiances with different dealers. Years ago I ordered a roll of B.U. 1964 Kennedy halfs from them. They were mostly spotted coins (water spots it appeared) and the roll was missing one coin. Spotted coins are not BU in my opinion. I wrote to them and got the nastiest letter in the world. They took them back but never again. it seems from above that Ampmex is just getting to big for their brithes. I'm also not fond of the term PQ or premium quality coins that most of the big dealers with the splashy ads use. These companies are not grading in the MS fashion at all and you are taking a chance that they are heavily bag marked, rubbed or just borderline BU and AU coins. I've had some good luck from Skyline I'll say but I'm always on guard. I send bank money orders but it can still take up to a month to get my order. Coin shops were 30 miles south and north of me so for years I've had to order by mail but a new local shp opened in nearby Canaan,Ct.called Canaan Coins and Precious Metals, operated by Nick and Heather Bartow and I'm finally getting some relief from all the postage costs and long waits. So if you are ever in the Northwest corner of Ct. stop by, say hello and looksee what they are offering. Their email is CANAANCoins@hotmail.com. Really nice folks!

Next month I intend to purchase some more pretty bisons but now I need a good reputable dealer. Is our beloved Mint be our only safe alternative????

Several months ago I had an order of slabbed AGE fractionals in a APMEX cart then checked out using AMEX cc. The s/h was out of sight so I canceled it and started over the second order was cheaper but not by much. I canceled the order then bought the AGE fractionals from http://www.moderncoinmart.com/cart1/home.php. Reasonable s/h and prompt delivery. Arrived in tight secure package. I'll order from them again.

Also they price some of the coins a little differently which I believe might be a good thing. I need to call them about this.

Their coins prices are very competitive.
