But, yeah, sellers have been putting together rolls like that and putting them on eBay at least as long as I've been back in the hobby, more than ten years at this point. It bugs me, but there's nothing in it that violates eBay's rules. All the same, if you get the roll, open it, and discover (as most of us expect) that it's got a problem 1909-S (no VDB) on one end, an ordinary 1909 VDB on the other, and a bunch of junk in between -- odds are good that you can gripe to the seller and they'll accept a return. Because if they do, they can have eBay take down any non-positive feedback that you leave. That's worth more to them than one more roll sale. Is it the ethical thing to do? I'm not wading into that discussion tonight.
You live and you learn. I heard some where that there is no such thing as a unsearched roll. The rolls for sale are usually seeded. $150.00 is too large a gamble. I look forward to seeing what you got.
I'm sure it was put together with a 1909 S and a 1909 VDB, but it will be interesting to see what they used for fill in between.
Most likely a seeded roll. I always had a chuckle at the guy who kept selling unsearched cent rolls with a gold quarter eagle inside. He must have had xray vision to know there was a gold coin inside.
You MUST make a video of you breaking this open and revealing the dates inside! That would be cool...
I'm guessing it's a seeded roll also, but who knows what the total value will amount to? Perhaps the "seeder" expected far more than your $150 bid and you'll get your '09-S as well as a vintage wrapper and some commons, some of which might bring a few shekels. @-jeffB's advice is good, IMHO, in the event you want to recoup your $150, less return shipping, and just go out an buy an acceptable '09-S. As W. C. Fields sat down the pay poker with three other guys, one of them asked, “Is this a game of chance?” “No,” the great comedian answered, “No chance at all.”
@mrweaseluv If your like me when buying things off ebay I expect to get what's pictured! Well I just did one of my many newly listed 09SVDB searches and I found your roll of Lincoln cents (same images) relisted! Now, I can only assume that your going to get a roll of Lincoln's that's going to have an 09-S on one end and a VDB of some sort on the other? It makes me mad to look over images check out the details and bid accordingly and then get something else! Check it out! https://www.ebay.com/itm/384791707798?hash=item59975f8096:g:K8kAAOSwnftiLj2n
Well this is a book that can be judged by its cover. Anyone who possessed this roll would certainly have opened it up (does anyone disagree with that)? I bet not. And since I think we all agree the odds may not be as bad as winning the jackpot PowerBall numbers, but close since they had the knowledge and temerity to draw in those that either never learned or forgot the nature of a good chunk of human beings out there. But who hasn't blown it when buying coins? I know I have and not just once or twice. Good luck though
Hey, sometime luck is just THAT! LUCK!!!! You never know. I purchased a Wheat cent that was "silver in color" and was NOT steel for $51.00 a few years back. I pictured it on here and got lots of flack about it being "plated, and counterfeit, ect ect." Turns out after sending it in to NGC. It was a REAL Error 1920 wheat cent wrong foreign planchet. (what were the odds?) so yes SIR mrweaseluv, I wish you that kind of luck. I await your news.
Guilty! I spent an entire years of collecting pop cans, all my pocket change, copper to fill the last date range hole in the Lincoln collection, my bucket list 09SVDB! I made my plans, I did my shopping, found one!! Bought it, it was a counterfeit!!!! And it was a direct deal. I had $400.00 in the one coins, a year later (or so) I got was able to get $200.00 of my money back!
