So does the nickel. My idea has been to just announce out of the blue all of the old one cent pieces are now worth 5 cents, and change the cent dies to say 5. Then Gresham's law will drive all current nickels out of circulation, and everyone will be happy since they just made 4 cents for every penny they own. Easy peesy, everyone happy and saves the government tons of money. So simple and effective our government would never contemplate it.
Nickel standard would be a good idea however allot of items have close margins and yes down to the Penney and those Penney’s add up !
And hardly any of them are bought one at a time with cash. Remember, gasoline is still priced to the tenth of a cent, and those tenths only "add up" if you're buying exactly one gallon at a time. For everybody else, they round, both up and down. (@slackaction1 told you not to get me started)
Before yes before you buy anything decide at what price and how much of it you will sell then and sell it. The amounts you don't sell could have another price target then sell it. Yes, I would buy silver today and sell at 30 if it does not get to 30 just don't sell it. Hold it for some time or give it to your kids. What do you think silver will be in 10 years? The problem is how much? Buy one oz or a monster box each week consistently
But for a long time (until now) it didn't matter in the aggregate as the seniorage on dimes, quarters, halves and dollars 'paid' for the operational losses on the cents and 5 cents.
Luckily in a week I'll be working remote while they do office renovations, that's gonna save me some cash.
Well I pulled the trigger on some silver last night, not a ton of it but I got a good bonus at work last week so I bought enough to get free shipping. I used Hero Bullion, which I found by accident and seems it's not as old or popular as some others but apparently it's an ex-founder of Provident Metals. Hopefully it goes well, It won't be shipped til later this month because one thing I got was a Silver Britannia which is on Pre-sale. The price dropped a little bit over the past few days and I had money burning a hole in my pocket so I went for it
Well I had a couple ounces worth already anyway. I don't intend to sell anytime soon unless the price goes really high. If I had to pick a number I'd say over $30/oz with a solid premium for the Coins, what I paid for a premium or close anyway. But for this small amount it wouldn't probably be worth selling. I hope to make AT LEAST this size purchase yearly going forward though. If nothing else my kids should have a nice little inhertance some day. I also got some NH Goldbacks just for fun because I live in NH and they're kinda cool
GOLD is the best conductor of all. Many circuit boards use a gold/nickel alloy for contacts, solder pads, etc. Why the gold/nickel alloy? Solderability. Yes, it's more expensive. And the solder pads on most other circuit boards are nickel-plated copper. So there's your demand for nickel. It will go up.
No, pure silver is the best conducting metal. Gold is used as it does not form oxides or other less conducting combinations and is usually limited to physical connections such as Printed circuit board fingers. Jim
